Lundqvist shines in Rangers’ win over Flyers

A slow start paired with Henrik Lundqvist producing a great game for the opposition led to the Philadelphia Flyers’ 4-1 loss to the New York Rangers tonight. The Blueshirts’ goaltender had a 37-save effort, while Chris Kreider produced a two-point performance with a goal and an assist. Rick Nash and Daniel Carcillo also scored for New York, as the Flyers failed to produce a point in the standings for a second straight game. The Philadelphia Flyers won two of their three games last week. Their wins came against the New Jersey Devils in overtime and the Montreal Canadiens in regulation. Yesterday, the team lost a due to a sub-par defensive effort, an unusually poor outing from goaltender Steve Mason, and some inexperience on coach Craig Berube’s part. Every player will have an off day here and there, every team will get away from their system from time to time, and every coach will fail to get his guys to turn things around after a bad couple of minutes sometimes. 2014 Draft Eligibles: Kingston’s Sam Bennett is making his mark

Kootenay’s Sam Reinhart is not the only Sam to head the 2014 NHL Draft class. Kingston Frontenacs center Sam Bennett has played his way onto a top five shortlist for the June draft. The Holland Landing, Ontario native currently sits sixth in the OHL in scoring with 24 goals, 37 assists for 61 points in 38 games played. He’s only two points behind Oshawa’s Michael Dal Colle for most points for any ’14 draft eligible player in the OHL. Flyers Hang On To Beat Habs 3-1; Unbeaten At Home In Last 10 Games

Zac Rinaldo’s first goal of the season would turn out to be the game winner, as the Flyers held on to beat the Montreal Canadians 3-1, Wednesday night at the Wells Fargo Center. Sean Couturier got the scoring started for the Flyers, as he slammed home a rebound for his eight goal of the season. Michael Raffl added his third of the season in the second period.
