2013 Draft Eligibles: Fighting Five in the ’13 draft class

With the final prospect profile before the 2013 NHL draft I’ve decided to shed light on five lesser-known prospects worth watching come draft day. Each brings a unique skill-set to the team that will select them, yet most of these players will fall out of the first round. Rumor Mill: Could the Flyers be targeting a Stanley Cup winner?

The rumor mill is alive and well on this Tuesday afternoon! After the news that the Philadelphia Flyers will buyout goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov (That story can be found here), a whole new world of possibilities have been opened up.  After the buyout the Flyers will be under the salary cap by roughly four million dollars! A new rumor that has hit the Twitterverse is that of Chicago Blackhawks Winger Viktor Stalberg.  The 27-year-old will be an unrestricted free agent this coming offseason.  According to Sam Carchidi, the Flyers are looking at Stalberg as a potential target.   Free-agent winger Viktor …

Holmgren: Bryzgalov’s gone

Bad news travels quickly around these parts. Jumping the gun by roughly 36 hours, Flyers GM Paul Holmgren has decided to rid himself of the Cosmonaut once and for all: “I met with Ilya this morning and informed him that we are going to exercise a compliance buy out of his contract. This was a very difficult business decision to make for us and we want to thank Ilya for his time here and wish him all the best moving forward.” This announcement comes less than a week since Holmgren lifted the veil on Danny Briere’s precarious contract situation with …
