The Philadelphia Flyers suffered their second loss in 48 hours with a 5-2 defeat in Buffalo on Sunday afternoon. Thomas Vanek accrued five points on two goals and three assists in the Sabres’ first game of the 2013 season.  Tyler Myers registered the game-winning goal in the third period, and Ryan Miller stopped 27-of-29 shots. For the second straight start, you couldn’t blame Ilya Bryzgalov, as he denied 36 of Buffalo’s 40 shots on net. The Flyers will try to bounce back from a rough loss against the Pittsburgh Penguins by spoiling the Buffalo Sabres’ season opener at First Niagra Center at 12:30 today. Titans blanked 4-0 by Cyclones

Just when the Trenton Titans seemed to be heading in the right direction, the Cincinnati Cyclones made a visit to the Sun National Bank Center and hand the Philadelphia Flyers’ affiliate a 4-0 loss on Saturday. Garrett Wilson had a two-goal game for Cincinnati, while former Trenton Devil Dan Eves and Mike Embach had two-assist games to end the Cyclones’ three-game losing streak. Michael Houser posted a 33-save shutout to end Trenton’s brief two-game winning streak. The Philadelphia Flyers had a strong final 40 minutes, but unfortunately the first 20 cost them, as they lost their first game of the 2013 season 3-1 to the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins. James Neal had what turned out to be the game-winner just 7:20 into the contest, while Marc-Andre Fleury kept 27 of the 28 shots the Flyers threw at him out of the net.
