Flyers grab win at their second home, beat Pens 2-1 in Pittsburgh

The Philadelphia Flyers earned their third straight win tonight, as they earned a 2-1 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins at the CONSOL Energy Center. Brayden Schenn had both of the Orange and Black’s tallies this evening, while Ray Emery came through for Philly with a strong 30-save performance. Naturally, Sidney Crosby was the lone player to beat Emery, as it looks as though Philadelphia might be turning this season in a positive direction. When Craig Berube was promoted to Flyers’ head coach, he talked about the team playing a strong defensive game and being better without the puck. The Orange …

Flyers dominate the Senators, Mason posts 24 saves in 5-0 win

There weren’t too many questions about the Philadelphia Flyers’ goal scoring tonight, as they dominated the Ottawa Senators 5-0 for a big road win. Jakub Voracek had a pair of goals, while the tandem of Vincent Lecavalier and Brayden Schenn produced a goal and an assist each. Claude Giroux registered a pair of assists, while Steve Mason recorded his first shutout as a Flyer with 24 saves on the night. Jay Rosehill, Scott Hartnell, and Vinny Lecavalier also scored for the orange & black, while David Perron and Taylor Hall got the tallies for Edmonton. The afternoon’s matchup pitted the NHL’s worst offensive team against its worst defensive team, which… didn’t sound promising for either side. However, the Flyers, who were held scoreless in their last game (Thursday at New Jersey), opened up the scoring first, with a nice …

Flyers shut out for second straight home game, lose 3-0 to Devils

If you saw Saturday’s win against this club or Tuesday’s loss to the Carolina Hurricanes, you essentially saw tonight’s 3-0 loss for the Philadelphia Flyers to the New Jersey Devils. Adam Henrique, Cam Janssen, and Jaromir Jagr beat Ray Emery tonight for the visitors, while Martin Brodeur posted a 22-save shutout. Emery had two deflections beat him, but he didn’t have any memorable saves for the Orange and Black. The Flyers were shutout for the second time in four games and the second straight time on home ice. There were minimal scoring chances for either team, but unfortunately for the Flyers, …

Penn State gets back into the win column; Prepare for Sacred Heart Friday

The Penn State Nittany Lions snapped their four-game losing streak Friday with a 5-4 victory over the Robert Morris Colonials. This game is just what the doctored ordered for the Nittany Lions. It was not their best game of season by far, but any win is sufficient for Guy Gadowsky and his players. Penn State still took way too many penalties as they committed eight penalties for a total of 24 minutes. However, Robert Morris showed no discipline and Penn State burned them for three power play goals, including a goal by Casey Bailey who finally got his first marker of …
