Flyers hang on for 2-1 win over depleted Rangers

It may have not been pretty, but the Philadelphia Flyers did just enough to grab the home win by a score of 2-1 over the visiting injury-riddled New York Rangers. Matt Read and Braydon Coburn scored for the home squad, while Steve Mason denied 30 of New York’s 31 shots on net. For New York, Brad Richards was the benefactor of a fortunate bounce for the team’s lone goal, while Cam Talbot made 25 saves in NHL debut. The visitors were without Henrik Lundqvist (undisclosed), Ryan Callahan (thumb), Carl Hagelin (shoulder), and Rick Nash (head). The game-winning tally came early in …

Nittany Lions swept by Air Force; Set to face RIT and Vermont this weekend

The first road trip of the year for the Penn State Nittany Lions did not go according to plan. Penn State drop both games to the Air Force Academy 5-2 and 3-1 last Friday and Saturday respectively. Friday night’s contest was a flat out disappointment. Penalties once again plagued Guy Gadowsky’s squad early on as sophomore David Glen was whistled for slashing less than five minutes into the game.  Scott Holm would give the Falcons a 1-0 lead on the powerplay as Cole Gunner sent a pass from the right corner to Chad Demers in front who tipped it on …

Despite Great Play, Falcons Clip Phantoms in Shootout

An incredibly strong game by the Adirondack Phantoms (1-3-0-2), unfortunately lead to a shootout loss to the undefeated Springfield Falcons (5-0-0-0). Nick Cousins scored his second goal in back-to-back games and Rob Bordson contributed a goal, but it was not enough. Yann Danis was very solid in net, stopping 27 of 29 shots — including a couple really nice glove saves and a diving play that could have changed the momentum of the game in the Falcons’ favor. The Phantoms jumped out to the early lead when Chris VandeVelde skated down the slot with the puck, dumping it back to …

Flyers Defeat Penguins 4-2; Giroux Defeats Terrorists

What started out as a routine night for the undefeated Philadelphia Flyers climaxed with the death of two terrorists on the ice and ended with another easy win for the Flyers. Flyers captain Claude Giroux started the scoring early in the game, when he dangled and dazzled his way around the entire starting line-up of the Pittsburgh Penguins off the opening faceoff. Giroux dizzy-danced around all five Penguins players and then razzled-razzled Penguins goalie Marc-Andre Fleury for a 1-0 lead five seconds into the game. With all four Flyers lines styling and profiling, ripping and rocking due to each line …

Penguins Ice Philadelphia; Flyers Fall To 1-7

Chris Kunitz scored for Pittsburgh at the 12:13 of the second period to give the Penguins a 2-0 lead, as they would eventually hold on to beat the Flyers 4-1 Thursday night in Philadelphia. Kunitz’s game winning goal came off a rebound from Pascal Dupuis. Defenseman Matt Nikanen also assisted on the goal. Pittsburgh’s first goal came from Jussi Jokinen and was assisted by Evgeni Malkin. The Penguins got their insurance goal from Sidney Crosby off a redirection from Dupuis. Malkin scored an empty net goal from Craig Adams and Crosby to ice the game. Penguins netminder Marc-Andre Fleury had …
