Facing an uphill battle up front

It’s hard to imagine a worse start to the season for the Flyers. With the schedule being so cramped, the Flyers found themselves on the menu for two home openers after starting the season with a tough loss to their in-state rivals Pittsburgh. Unfortunately for them, the damage has been caused by a host of issues throughout the line-up, and it seems to have festered with each passing game, adversely affecting the level of play in greater volumes as the madness unfolded. Now the Flyers are 0-3 and facing nothing but questions and the occasional Seth Jones quip. So where …

Atlantic Watch: 1/19-1/22

This wasn’t the way the Philadelphia Flyers wanted to start the season, but there is still plenty of time to turn it around. After they opened the 2013 campaign with a loss at home to the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Orange and Black lost a pair of road games in Buffalo and New Jersey to start the year on a three-game losing streak. It hasn’t even been a full week yet but Tye McGinn has been called up to the Flyers due to an injury to Zac Rinaldo. The 2010, fourth round draft pick (119th overall) is a big body who has found a nice home in front of the net. He could potentially make his debut tonight against the New Jersey Devils at the Prudential Center. What potentially are the Flyers getting with this call up? A 6′ 2″, 205 pound lefty who has had a spark since coming back to Adirondack from training camp. In 33 games McGinn has tallied 11 goals with …

Sponsored: Will the shortened season benefit the Flyers?

The Philadelphia Flyers haven’t hoisted the Cup since the mid-70’s, but fans and players alike believe the 2013 shortened season uniquely benefits the “Broad Street Bullies.” Last year, while the team was ousted by the underdog Devils in the second round of the playoffs, the Flyers’ youngsters gained much-needed postseason experience that they will hopefully carry into this new season. Among them, left wing Brayden Schenn factors to be a pivotal Flyer this season. He’ll replace hockey legend Jaromir Jagr, who departed for Dallas in the offseason, on the team’s top line and will have the chance to play with …
