RICE & MICE: Injury overview, Atlantic Division

New Jersey Devils Center Adam Henrique is recovering from a torn ligament (ulnar collateral ligament) in his left thumb. The ligament was torn in an AHL game in November and was surgically repaired on November 29. The 4-to-6 week recovery time puts his comeback in February. I wrote about this injury a while back if you would like more information: Gamekeeper’s Thumb New York Islanders Center Josh Bailey injured his left knee while playing in Germany during the lockout. He had arthroscopic surgery and will miss 2-to-4 weeks. The Islanders have suspended Bailey until he can pass a physical. Winger …

College Hockey Roundup: BC Recruit Demko shines; Quinnipiac keeps unbeaten streak alive

Remember the name Thatcher Demko. Demko, a Boston College commit who plays goalie for the U.S. Under-18 team, stopped all 23 shots that were thrown his way as Team USA beat Penn State 3-0 on Saturday to salvage a split in a weekend exhibition series. He made 35 saves in 2-2 tie against a highly touted New Hampshire squad back on December 9 and made 39 saves on October 26 against a powerhouse University of Minnesota team that features the likes of Nick Bjugstad …

If you didn’t see our Tim McManus’ article last week on mailbags, you should definitely check it out. With that said, it’s time for some mailbag questions of my own! From reader Mike Tomon, “Why do I see a cap hit of $100,000 for Oskars Bartulis for the Flyers?”. This is good question Mike, and one I expect other fans will wonder if/when we ever have hockey again and …

CBA 101: What is Hockey Related Revenue (HRR)?

Last week I was inspired by one of the team names at our Second Annual Flyers Pub Quiz. Perhaps it’s the Collective Bargaining Agreement geek in me, but it was my favorite team name of the night; “WTF is Hockey Related Revenue?”. So I thought I’d touch on defining HRR per the last CBA for those people that may be unaware. The definition of HRR, and what is and isn’t included, has been one of the biggest discussion topics during the CBA negotiations thus far. Recently the NHL and NHLPA came to an agreement to maintain the current definition of HRR. As defined in …
