Poll: What has you most excited about the 2013-2014 Flyers?

It’s been a nice, safe offseason in Philadelphia Flyer land; one that deserves some good marks for General Manager Paul Holmgren. He jettisoned the bloated contracts of Danny Briere and Ilya Brzgalov via their compliance buyouts. He traded for and then signed mobile defenseman Mark Streit (in probably the only questionable move of the offseason; at least from a contract perspective). He surprised everybody by signing Vincent Lecavalier. He brought back Adam Hall to compete for the fourth line center position. Lastly, he signed Ray Emery to a bargain one-year contract. So what has you most excited about this upcoming …

Laperriere “un homme de fer” after Sunday event in Quebec

You might have called Ian Laperriere a warrior, or tough as nails during an 18-year NHL career which concluded three years ago in Philadelphia. After Sunday, add “iron man” to those honorifics. The 39-year-old Laperriere completed the Ironman Mont-Tremblant in his native Quebec, ranking 124th among his division, men aged 35-to-39. He finished the swim portion of the race, a 3.8-kilometer course in a neat 1 hour, 13 minutes, then took on the 180-km bike section in 5 hours, 42 minutes and 56 seconds, before finishing the final 42.2-km on foot in 5:05:21. It might not have happened at all, …

Hockey Hilarity: Of Course Claude Giroux, Of Course

Hey everyone! Welcome to another Hockey Hilarity. This time, with both a heavy heart and hysterical laughing fit, I must talk about the elephant in the room: Claude Giroux actually, seriously, honestly did injure himself golfing… In a really weird, and yet oddly overly masculine way. The Philadelphia Flyers‘ newly signed for the next eight years captain, shattered his golf club, cut some of the tendons in his right index finger, and had surgery to repair said tendons according to everybody on the Internet. So he’s missing the next five or six weeks of, what basically amounts to the rest …

Hockey Hilarity: BizNasty Training Hard

This week, for hockey hilarity, I decided it was time to revisit the twitter account of an old friend: Phoenix Coyotes forward Paul Bissonnette. He’s not really my friend, (I like to pretend he is) but he’s a funny dude, and that’s what this is all about when you think really long and hard about it like I do every week. Anywho, Bissonnette sent this out about a week ago: Training is going really well this summer, you guys. Not trying to throw the world out of orbit, but I might score a few this season. — Paul Bissonnette (@BizNasty2point0) …

Hockey Hilarity: Real Mature Yahoo, Real Mature

Friday funnies brought to you straight from hockey’s own players, media personnel, and broadcast botches. We’ll be mucking it up every week right here, examining puck ups, puns, tweets, and more! I don’t know about you gals and guys, but It’s been so long since I’ve seen I’ve seen a hockey game, I can’t even remember what the game looks like, what the players do, when to cheer, when to jeer, when to jump for joy, when to cry into my beer (which is root beer of course, I don’t drink alcohol… enough). Anyway, earlier this week, the Yahoo! Sports NHL …
