RICE & MICE: Eyes wide shut? Should we continue to ignore the need for visors in the NHL?

In light of Chris Pronger’s eye injury on Monday night, I decided to postpone what I was going to share with you today in favor of a look at eye injuries.  While the injury report on Pronger is vague as always and I can’t speak with authority on his particular injury, I can say that there are far too many preventable eye injuries every year for the league and NHL Players’ Association to continue to ignore. Visors would help prevent many of these injuries and it’s time to address the need for eye protection in the NHL. For a league …

Point/Counterpoint: Trading Bobrovsky to Columbus

Point/Counterpoint is a new series which argues both sides of a topic relevant to the Philadelphia Flyers. According to Sam Carchidi, Paul Holmgren was scouting the Detroit vs. Columbus game last night. This week, Nina G and Marcello De Feo debate whether or not the Flyers should consider trading Sergei Bobrovsky to the Columbus Blue Jackets. Point By Nina G I believe it is time for the Flyers to begin thinking about trading Sergei Bobrovsky. Bobrovsky is a talented young goalie with a promising future as a starter in this league, but his future won’t be with the Flyers. With Ilya …

3 on 3 for the week of 10.23.2011

The Flyers started off the week well, with a win in Ottawa 7-2, but followed it up with two straight losses, a 5-2 setback to the Caps and a 4-2 decision to the Blues — both at home. The Flyers need to play better if they want to turn around this current losing streak. That being said, it is time for this week’s three stars: Matt Read — Read had a career-best goal and three assists in the thrashing of the Sens and has continued his solid all around play at both ends of the ice. He was held scoreless …

More Than A Little Annoyed

I like Mike Richards. I do. He was the first Flyer that I knew of when I entered into the world of hockey. The only other players I knew were Wayne Gretzky (Thanks, Mighty Ducks 2) and Sidney Crosby (due to Pam’s extreme dislike of the Pens’ forward). When I started watching the Flyers play, I didn’t know any names or numbers all that well, but I could follow #18. When Richards got traded this summer, I stared at my twitter feed in shock. I nearly cried. It was my first big, painful trade. I’d invested into this team of …

Penguins Opening Night

The Lulz feature was originally inspired by the lolcats site but features hockey pictures with funny, quirky, ironic or just plain mean captions. This feature should run weekly on Fridays; TGIFWL (Thank Goodness It’s Friday With Lulz).
