Dazzlers and Duds: The Finals – Giroux v. Gagne and Carcillo v. Asham

Several weeks back, we asked our beloved Twitter followers who were their most loved and hated Flyers of the past decade. It led to some great names and some great discussion. Well it got us thinking. In the doldrums that is August in the hockey world — not to mention the impending doom of a lockout —  we decided to put together a tournament; poll style! We’ve compiled the responses for both the Loved and Hated categories, and seeded them according to our whims and wishes. What you see before you is the result of our efforts. While we may not necessarily …

CBA Chatter

Everything you wanted to know about the CBA but were afraid to ask Here are your updates from the past week on the ongoing collective bargaining agreement talks from around the Web. Lockout. It’s a dirty word to me, like “strike”, “New York Rangers”, and “country music”. We,the fans, always lose during any labor disagreement between the owners and the players. We can only hope that both sides suck it up, meet in the middle and get a deal done. As of this writing, there are no plans on the two sides meeting, but hopefully this weekend someone will reach out and …

Crashing the Crease: Home Cooking

The 2012-2013 NHL season had all the earmarks of a solid season for the league as a whole. Last season ended in fantastic fashion for the growth of the game. The LA Kings had sparked some real interest in the game out West, even bringing to light the fact that David Beckham has been a Kings fan before it was cool [again]. People who weren’t Canadian transplants were paying attention to the sport. The East Coast equivalent of L.A. was ready to see a return to the limelight, as the New York Rangers had effectively re-tooled and upgraded their roster. …

Then and Now: Andrew Alberts

Scott Hartnell often flirts with dirty play on the ice, but it doesn’t result in much more than trash talk or an action to irritate his opponent. Over the span of his 13-year professional career, the left winger has only been suspended once. In a game against the Boston Bruins on November 26, 2007, one of Beantown’s defensemen dropped to their knees to make a play on the puck near the boards. With the defender on his knees, Hartnell checked the blue liner which resulted in the defenseman’s head being slammed into the glass. Hartsy received a two-game suspension for his hit …

NHL 13: My Quick Review

WHOA! That is my initial reaction. EA Sports’ latest installment of the NHL video game series was released on Tuesday, September 11. And, like I said, whoa. This game is ridiculous. Not only are the graphics improved and  the game play different, but this may be the only time I can see Claude Giroux in a Flyers jersey playing on ice — albeit in video game pixels. For the average gamer like myself, the subtle differences are not a big deal. EA Sports made a big deal discussing their new skating options. To me, whatever. I just want to play. …
