Dazzlers and Duds: Pronger v. Desjardins and Carcillo v. Briere

Several weeks back, we asked our beloved Twitter followers who were their most loved and hated Flyers of the past decade. It led to some great names and some great discussion. Well it got us thinking. In the doldrums that is August in the hockey world — not to mention the impending doom of a lockout —  we decided to put together a tournament; poll style! We’ve compiled the responses for both the Loved and Hated categories, and seeded them according to our whims and wishes. What you see before you is the result of our efforts. While we may …

NHL and NHLPA Playing a Dangerous Game

I’ve tried my hardest to not discuss the potential NHL lockout. Now that it looms, I’ll tell you why I refused to make any mention of the lockout in my articles. For one, I don’t fully understand what the owners and players are thinking. I do understand that it all come down to money. What I mean is, how could the NHL and NHLPA allow their situation to get like this? Did they not learn from the NBA’s lockout last year? Secondly, I’ve refused to let myself get enraptured by the possibility of a lockout. Meaning, I’ve barely read any …

Hockey Hilarity: Ginger… Snap!

Friday funnies brought to you straight from hockey’s own players and media personnel. We’ll be mucking it up every week right here, examining puck ups, puns, tweets, and more! Claude Giroux’s breakout season this year was rewarded by an overwhelming show of fan support as he was voted to be the cover athlete for EA Sports’ NHL ’13. It’s a pretty cool thing and cements the Hearst, Ontario native as one of the top young stars in the league. But what all that talent and all those votes can’t change is a single, undeniable truth: Claude Giroux is a ginger. It’s …

Yzerman had a corneal abrasion among some other injuries to his eye

RICE & MICE: Corneal Injuries

The cornea is the clear tissue that lays over the iris and pupil of the eye. The cornea works with the lens to help focus images on the retina. Just like any part of the body, injuries can and do occur to the cornea. Then and Now: Triston Grant

Jannik Hansen hasn’t missed a single game for the Vancouver Canucks since the start of the 2010-2011 campaign. After he posted 16 goals and 23 assists in the 2011-2012 regular season, Hansen notched a goal in Vancouver’s Western Conference Quarterfinals’ match-up with the Los Angeles Kings before they were dismissed in five games. Hansen was picked 287th overall by the Canucks in the ninth round of the 2004 NHL Draft, one slot after the Philadelphia Flyers selected left winger Triston Grant. After his final season with the Vancouver Giants of the Western Hockey League, Grant signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Flyers’ organization …

Point/Counterpoint: Who’s to blame — owners or players?

Welcome to the newest edition of “Point/Counterpoint,” where a pair of Flyers Faithful scribes present both sides of one particular issue with their own unique view and flair. This week Dain S and Jim H debate whether the looming NHL lockout is the players fault or the owners fault. Point, Jim: Defending the players…Make no mistake, no matter what happens as a result of this lockout, nobody wins. Not the fans and certainly not the entirety of the National Hockey League (players and owners), that has built a strong foundation since their last lockout, almost 10 years ago. The Winter Classic, and surrounding hoopla …

Hockey Geekiness

Dave Delisle runs two fantastic websites, Dave’s Geeky Ideas and Dave’s Geeky Hockey.  On these sites, he takes the geeky ideas in his head and turns them into visible concepts, and, in some cases, reality. I asked Dave a few questions about his websites, hockey video games, and hockey in general. What idea was the inspiration for Dave’s Geeky Ideas? I just really enjoyed creating and felt I had enough enthusiasm to warrant an ongoing blog. Prior to that, I was submitting a lot of ideas at work (a video game studio) and design websites. Tired of seeing ideas fall …
