Five Questions: What are your thoughts on the amnesty clause? Do you think it will happen?

Flyers Faithful is pleased to have Lyle Richardson, Paul Kukla, Jesse Spector, and Tyler Altemose to partake in our Five Questions series on the CBA. This is the third of a five-part series. What are your thoughts on the amnesty clause? Do you think it will happen? Lyle Richardson: It happened at the start of this CBA, and I expect it’ll happen again. The players won’t be the ones pushing for it, but I doubt they’ll do much to try to prevent it. The amnesty buyout option wasn’t used much at the start of this CBA, because there weren’t a lot of teams with …

Five Questions: What are the biggest issues that need to be resolved in the next CBA?

Flyers Faithful is pleased to have Lyle Richardson, Paul Kukla, Jesse Spector, and Tyler Altemose to partake in our Five Questions series on the CBA. This is the second of a five-part series. What are the biggest issues that need to be resolved in the next CBA? Lyle Richardson: For the owners, it’s the split of revenue with the players, as they’ll want to reduce it from 57 percent to around 50 percent. They’ll also seek a cap on contract lengths, to close that loophole of heavily front-loading deals to get a friendlier cap hit, and could seek to abolish or restricted movement clauses. …

Around the Net for 2.28.12

Welcome to Around the Net, a look at the Philadelphia Flyers on and off the ice. This week we look at the NHL trading deadline which passed yesterday, and the deals (or lack thereof) that went down. No news is good news for JVR: The NHL trading deadline came and went and the Flyers stood pat on the day in question — but that means little as Paul Holmgren was active in the week leading up to the final day of dealing. The Pavel Kubina and Nick Grossman deals were all the tinkering the Flyers’ front office felt they needed. …

Five Questions: Do you believe there will be a lockout? Why?

Flyers Faithful is pleased to have Lyle Richardson, Paul Kukla, Jesse Spector, and Tyler Altemose to partake in our Five Questions series on the CBA. This is the first of a five-part series. Do you believe there will be a lockout? Why? Lyle Richardson: Perhaps I’m too optimistic, but I think it can be avoided. The atmosphere between the two sides isn’t poisonous as it was the last two times around, and despite some of the early posturing on both sides, I get the sense there’s a genuine desire on both sides to get something done to avoid any delays to the season. Of …

This Week in Flyers History 2/26-3/3

The continuation of a weekly series here at Flyers Faithful, “This Week in Flyers History” aims to provide historical information on Flyers games of the past with some kind of significance, using pictures and videos where appropriate. February 26, 1997 Flyers 8, Senators 5 — John LeClair scores two goals and Eric Lindros picks up three assists in the first period alone, but it ends 4-4 thanks to questionable defense and goaltending all around. Philly goes down 5-4 early in the second, but Lindros, Rod Brind’Amour, Mikael Renberg and LeClair all hit the net before the end of the night …

Review: Five-Minute Major (In D Minor)

It’s hard to believe that a band that writes songs solely about hockey could amount to much more than a novelty act but The Zambonis did just that. The Connecticut-based band has defied all odds and strung together a hockey-related career that has lasted significantly longer in North America than Pavel Brendl. Since forming in 1991, The Zambonis released eight albums (from what I can gather), survived two lockouts, saw the NHL expand to 30 teams, and watched as numerous teams relocated, included the band members’ favorite, Hartford Whalers. FIve Minute Major (In D Minor) pays tribute to the defunct …

Reunited (Riunite?) And It Feels Sooo Good

The Lulz feature was originally inspired by the lolcats site but features hockey pictures with funny, quirky, ironic or just plain mean captions. This feature should run weekly on Fridays; TGIFWL (Thank Goodness It’s Friday With Lulz).

Creating Drama

(from Google images) In just a few days, I will be celebrating my hockey two year anniversary. I mark my beginnings as a fan by the day I saw the last game of the Olympics in 2010. It was February 28th. I’m not sure when I officially was a ‘fan,’ but that game marked the start of it. Last year, I celebrated my one year anniversary by attending the Flyers Carnival. It was quite an experience, as I realized that even me, the Southerner, can get horribly nervous when meeting new people…if those people happen to be NHL hockey players. …

European Updates #3

Last week’s update was all about Jaromir and his birthday. This week is a little different. We have some really good topics about a former Flyers goalie who had his issues here, so take a look. First of all, it’s very likely that Petr Nedved’s Liberec (4th) will be facing Jakub Kovar’s Ceske Budejovice (5th) in the playoffs. So Flyers fans should be interested in that matchup. Yes, there are still two games remaining in the regular season but both teams are tied with points (80) and Vitkovice have 6 less points than Budejovice. I was hesitating about this news …
