Alvarez Leaves for Ft. Benning, Titans Lose Seventh Straight

The Trenton Titans lost their seventh straight last night at the hands of the visiting South Carolina Stingrays on Military Appreciation Night at Sun National Bank Center. Marcel Alvarez and his teammates couldn’t do enough to beat Jeff Jakaitis and his shot-blocking partners, as Trenton saw the goaltender stop 32 of the 33 shots they threw at him. Scott Wedgewood had 16 saves on 19 shots, as three players who participated in the loss last night won’t be on the team today. The story of the night was Alvarez. Trenton Update: 1/4-1/10

The Trenton Titans’ two-game skid turned into a five-game losing streak this week, as the squad dropped all three games on their schedule with a record of 0-2-1. Just as the Flyers’ ECHL affiliate gained a lot of ground in the Eastern Conference with a winning streak a few weeks ago, the team dropped right out of the playoff picture with a losing streak, as Trenton sits 12th in the conference at the moment. A pair of tilts against a team three points ahead of them in the East and a contest against the team leading their division give the …

Premature season predictions

With the start of the 2013 NHL season suddenly right around the corner, it is time to make some unfounded predictions that, in the long run, will either make us look like prescient geniuses or complete fools. Or, maybe we will just play it safe and make some conservative predictions that have a high probability of coming true. Either way, here we go. Marcello De Feo 1. Luke Schenn will accumulate 200 hits and win over fans Last season, Luke Schenn accumulated 270 hits over 79 games for the Toronto Maple Leafs, which was good enough to lead the league …

Don’t Boycott The NHL

I’m just going to throw this out there. Ready? Don’t boycott the NHL after this past lockout. Look, I know that the lockout sucked. I missed hockey just as much as the next person. But it’s back now, and for all of the bitching I did about not getting to watch professional games, I’m obviously not going to purposely miss them because I’m pissed at the league. That’s just silly. Maybe you don’t want to give the league any money. That’s fine. Don’t buy any merchandise, don’t show up to any games. But for those of you who kept saying, …

Briere as a hobbit...wait, no, that's not what I meant by fantasy hockey! (thanks to the awesome @geoffmang for the photoshop)

We will be drafting online on Thursday, January 17th at 8:00pm. Be sure to set your pre-rankings if you can’t make the live draft. And yes, there will a prize of some sort for the winner — but shhh, it’s a secret. (Of …

Then and Now: Adam Oates

Adam Oates entered the league quietly and left the league just the same, but the former center was rewarded for his playing career recently when he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. After he joined the Detroit Red Wings during the 1985-1986 season as an undrafted free agent out of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Oates went on to finish 16th on the all-time points list with 1,420. Known as one of the game’s greatest playmakers, Oates finished sixth on the all-time NHL assists list with 1,079, which is more than Gordie Howe and Mario Lemieux. Oates was one of …
