Crashing the Crease: Stick Discipline

This week, we’ve received the news that we’re likely looking at a lockout. This was great for me, as I really love the prospect of prolonged revenue sharing discussions.  I like hockey, don’t get me wrong, but I’m also pretty sure that the on-ice action isn’t why we’re all fans.  There’s actually very little doubt that an HBO 24/7 series chronicling the boardroom discussions leading to the pending shutdown of NHL hockey would rival the tension and entertainment value of an OT game in the Stanley Cup Finals, and I’m glad the league recognized this fact. Then and Now: Sami Kapanen

In the middle of the 2002-2003 regular season, the Philadelphia Flyers shipped defenseman Bruno St. Jacques and winger Pavel Brendl to the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for a pair of players. Ryan Bast was one player Philly acquired in the deal, a defenseman who only played a pair of games in the NHL, both of which were with the Flyers. The other was Sami Kapanen, a veteran left winger in his eighth season in the NHL. After several seasons with the Hartford Whalers’ organization, who became the Hurricanes in his third season with the club, Kapanen became a member of his …

Hartnell gets extended Scott Hartnell gets a 6 year contract extension from the Flyers on Monday:[Broad Street Hockey] [The Checking Line] [The 700 Level] My take on Hartnell- I love this deal, with an average cap hit of $4.75 million a year, Hartnell gets a $550,000 raise and stays in orange and black for 6 years longer.
