2014 Draft Eligibles: European Preliminary Top 10

The European talent pool overall has been down over the last couple of years in my opinion, while the USHL and USNTDP have both strengthen. This year I think we could see a European invasion in first round. Kasperi Kapanen, Willie Nylander, and Jakub Vrana are the top three Euro’s for this draft right now.  Do two of the names sound familiar? Kasperi is the son of former NHLer Sami Kapanen and Willie’s Dad is former NHLer Michael Nyalnder. The neat thing about Kapanen and Nylander is both skate alongside their father’s for their respected teams. Not many draft prospects …

2014 Draft Eligibles: QMJHL Preliminary Top 10

The QMJHL had a banner year last year with the Halifax Mooseheads dominating the CHL en route to a Memorial Cup victory in Saskatoon. The “Q” also saw six players taken in the first round and produced a total of 31 players overall. The 2014 draft class certainly does not have the star power of 2013, but there are a few players who could be top 15 selections come June. Click here for my OHL rankings. 1. Ranking the Flyers’ prospects: Goaltenders

For the past two weeks I’ve ranked the Flyers’ top prospects as I see it. In case you missed the first two installments, click here to view my forward rankings and click here to view my defenseman rankings. Today I’m taking a look at the Flyers’ goalie prospects. Flyers’ fans know that the position of goaltender has been an enigma for the franchise for some time now. Philadelphia has not seen a goaltender of high caliber since the Bernie Parent days in the 1970’s and the Pelle Lindbergh/Ron Hextall days of the mid-1980’s. Names such as Robert Esche, Jeff Hackett, …

Ranking the Flyers’ Prospects: Defense

Last Monday I ranked the Flyers’ top 10 prospects at forward as I see it. You can click here to view my forward rankings. This week I rank the Flyers’ top 10 defensive prospects. Overall, I like what the Flyers have in their system on the blue line. Names such as Robert Haag and Samuel Morin stick out due to their high potential and where they were selected in the draft. Philadelphia also possesses some lesser known defenseman such as Fredrick Larsson, Maxim Lamarche, and Mark Alt that I believe could have an impact at the NHL level someday. Check …

Ranking the Flyers’ Prospects: Forwards

The Philadelphia Flyers prospect pool is considered one of the weakest in all of the NHL mainly because of their lack of an NHL top 50 prospect. Personally, I was not impressed with their draft back in June and I honestly think they missed out on some players who will be stars at the next level. Despite that, Philadelphia does possess an abundance of gritty and physical forwards. Players like Jason Akeson, Petr Straka, and Tye McGinn come to mind.  However, they lack elite/top tier talent at forward. Scott Laughton and Tye McGinn are the most NHL ready prospects in …
