Heading into the final five games of the season, it’s likely that the Flyers will miss the playoffs for the first time in six years. Instead of preparing themselves for Round 1 come the end of next week, they’ll likely be packing up their lockers at the Wells Fargo Center. And it’s a huge bummer. The Dueling Fists of Fury have been given a vote of confidence by the Flyers’ front office, as both Zac Rinaldo and Jay Rosehill were signed to two-year contract extensions on Wednesday evening. The former recorded three goals and five points to go along with 85 penalty minutes in 32 games for the Flyers but has been out of action since April 3 with a high-ankle sprain of his left leg. The National Hockey League dished out a five-game suspension to Montreal Canadiens forward Ryan White on Wednesday afternoon, for an illegal check to the head of Philadelphia defenseman Kent Huskins. The incident occurred 6:11 into the first period of Monday’s 7-3 Philadelphia victory, when White reached out and used his elbow to subdue Huskins instead of using bodily contact. Huskins suffered a concussion on the play, and is out indefinitely. White was assessed a match penalty and game misconduct. He will forfeit $18,581.10, which automatically goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund, and not be eligible to return until …

Steve Mason was outstanding stopping 38 of 40 shots as the Philadelphia Flyers defeated the New York Rangers 4-2 on Tuesday night. “Certainly he seems to be feeling comfortable here”, Coach Peter Laviolette said of his new goaltender. ”He’s in control of the net. However, for Finnish defensive prospect Rasmus Ristolainen these are the qualities that make him one of the best defensive prospect in the upcoming draft.
