European Updates #3

Last week’s update was all about Jaromir and his birthday. This week is a little different. We have some really good topics about a former Flyers goalie who had his issues here, so take a look. First of all, it’s very likely that Petr Nedved’s Liberec (4th) will be facing Jakub Kovar’s Ceske Budejovice (5th) in the playoffs. So Flyers fans should be interested in that matchup. Yes, there are still two games remaining in the regular season but both teams are tied with points (80) and Vitkovice have 6 less points than Budejovice. I was hesitating about this news …

Wandell: “Shocked is the right word”

The following is a translated excerpt from a story originally published on hockeysverige.se: Södertälje guys Tom Wandell and Nicklas Grossman were not only teammates in Dallas Stars, they also shared the apartment. Last week, however, told that Grossman has surprisingly become traded to Philadelphia. Surprised is probably the wrong word. Shocked is it the right word, says Wandell to hockeysverige.se. Dallas Stars have had a rough season in the NHL. Today, the team first in tenth place in the Eastern Conference and thus there is a clear summary that they miss the playoffs. RICE & MICE: The appendix, appendicitis, and appendectomies

When is a belly ache more than just an ache? When is it something more serious? Well, appendicitis comes to mind as one such serious occasion. For a part of the body that has no real vital purpose, the appendix sure can cause a lot of commotion.  The big scientific name for the appendix is vermiform appendix. Vermiform is Latin for “worm-shaped” and worm-shaped it most certainly is. You take a bite of a burger, chew and swallow, the food moves out of your mouth, down your esophagus and into the stomach, being digested all along the way. When the …

Atlantic Watch: 2/15-2/21

The Flyers won two of their three games this week, as the club is still trying to turn things around before the playoffs. Although they are 4-5-2 since the All-Star break, Philly won two of their last three games. Fortunately for the Flyers, their next three games are away from the Wells Fargo Center, a scenario they are 19-9-2 in this season. In their first contest, the Flyers pounded the visiting Buffalo Sabres by a score of 7-2. After Jason Pominville and Thomas Vanek tallied in the first for Buffalo, the Flyers rattled off seven straight goals. The performance of …

It took the Flyers 55 shots, a goal in the final minute of regulation and one more in the final minute before the dreaded shootout, but the Philadelphia Flyers finally beat the Winnipeg Jets with a 5-4 overtime win on Tuesday night at MTS Centre. Jaromir Jagr potted his 16th goal of the season with 44 seconds left in overtime, as the Flyers beat the Jets in the clubs’ final meeting of 2011-2012. On the game-winner, Danny Briere epitomized the game for Philly, as he stuck with the play to out work Johnny Oduya and regain control of the puck …

Flyers Wives Fight For Lives Carnival 2012

This year was my first ever attending the Flyers Wives Fight For Lives Carnival.  I’ve heard about the event plenty of times before but never found myself in a position to attend.  This year my girlfriend decided to take her son to get a picture with Jaromir Jagr at the carnival as a Christmas present and brought me along for the ride.  You can read about my experience after the jump.
