Then and Now: Martin Biron

Four goaltenders were picked in the first round of the 1995 NHL Draft. Two of those goalies, J.S. Giguere and Marc Denis, never played for the Philadelphia Flyers. The other two went on to serve as the starting goaltender for Philly at one point in their careers. One of those goaltenders was Brian Boucher. The other goalie was Martin Biron. Picked 16th overall by the Buffalo Sabres, Biron went on to see part-time duty for the organization between the seasons of 1995-1996 and 1998-1999. Since losing defenseman Chris Pronger to a devastating eye injury back on October 24, 2011, the Flyers defensive corps has been downright dismal and unimpressive for the most part. Jared Abbott and I believe the Flyers will draft a defenseman with the 11th overall pick such as Rasmus Ristolainen, Ryan Pulock, Nikita Zadorov, or Mirco Mueller. However, we’re just guessing based on organizational need. Flyers General Manager Paul Holmgren does have a tendency of taking forwards in the first round and I would not be shocked if the orange and black go after a forward with their first selection. I …

2013 Year in Review: Zac Rinaldo

For a franchise that is known and loved for their pugilistic dominance, it’s not surprising that one of the team’s favorite players amongst the fans is a fourth-line pest that always picks on somebody bigger than him. Winning the Gene Hart Memorial Award, helping to put one of the league’s best power plays on the ice, and leaving the goal scorers in a favorable position to start their shift is a good summary of Zac Rinaldo’s season. 2013 IIHF World Championship Semis and Finals – Bronze Age for the USA, Gold for Gus

5/18/2013 Semifinals Finland-Sweden 0-3 Vaananen 0+0, 17:47 TOI Kukkonen 0+0, 6:37 TOI Gustafsson 0+0, 24:17, +1 Sweden became the first finalist to play in their home World Championship. They won against Finland scoring three goals while Jhonas Enroth earned a shutout. Loui Eriksson scored twice and Henrik Sedin buried the empty netter. Switzerland-USA Carle 0+0, 22:59 TOI, -1 Switzerland remains unbeaten, gaining 3-0 victory against USA and they advanced into the finals. They will earn the first medal in 60 years.
