Poll: Would you rather re-sign Leino or have Gagne back?
Gagne may be taking a paycut and Leino is in line for a sizable raise. All things considered, the two players could end up making about the same amount next season. Which would you rather have?
Luckily the Ability to Smell is Not a Necessity to Play in the NHL
The Lulz feature was originally inspired by the lolcats site but features hockey pictures with funny, quirky, ironic or just plain mean captions. This feature should run weekly on Mondays, just to try to make your Monday a little brighter.
Goalie Search 2011 – Evgeni Nabokov
The Chairman has spoken, the goalie carousel has come to an end! With Ed Snider’s announcement that the goaltending problem has to be fixed this offseason, it’s time to begin looking ahead to just what goaltender the Flyers brass will bring in to slam the door on the age-old question: when will the Flyers finally invest in a quality goaltender? Because of this, I have decided to take the possible goaltenders the Flyers may pursue, be it via free agency or trade. Every day I will analyze a new goaltender in an attempt to determine the best fit for the …
The Lost Season
Nursing the heartbreak of a Stanley-Cup caliber Flyers season that came to a screeching halt with a stupefying early playoff exit is a rare and beautiful thing. Although the Flyers have prided themselves on not shitting the bed in the postseason after being near the top of the NHL standings, it has been known to occur every once in a blue moon. Like in the early 1980′s. Tucked in between the Year of the Streak that ended in a loss to the Islanders in the Finals and the Mike Keenan-led surprise 1985 Cup finalists, was four deeply disappointing years that saw a …
Pronger answers burning questions at Thursday press conference
Q: How did the surgery go and how are you feeling? ”Well, as far as I was told it went very well. It relieved a lot of the weakness I was having in my leg and now it is just a matter of how the nerve regenerates itself and the range of motion and all the rest of that stuff. How it recovers and that stuff are probably another four to five weeks before we see where that is at.” Q: Can you tell us about the decision to have the surgery, was that an option you were given or …
PHI/WAS poll response
I agree with the majority of responders and would not trade Jeff Carter and Matt Carle to Washington for Mike Green and Semyon Varlamov. The Flyers could certainly use a right-handed shot from the point to help boost scoring, especially on the powerplay. However, Mike Green is a defensive liability who comes along with a hefty price tag. You could limit his defensive faults by pairing him with Chris Pronger or Kimmo Timonen but it’s simply not practical to consider adding Green’s $5.25M cap hit to an already expensive defense, even if he does have the potential to score 20+ …
Poll: Would you make this hypothetical PHI/WAS trade?
Before I go on, I’d like to preface this poll by saying this situation is purely hypothetical. I am not speculating that this might happen or suggesting it is a legitimate rumor. For the love of all that is good and holy, don’t read anything into it or claim that I said this might happen. As rivals, the Flyers and Capitals make for unusual bedfellows but, this offseason, they could be a match. Washington has goaltending depth and a right-handed offensive defenseman, both rumored to be available. The Flyers have a surplus of centers and an alleged need for goaltending. …
RICE & MICE: Labrum tears…It’s all in the hips
Ok, so there’s a labrum in the shoulder, but I’m talking about hips so, for right now, it’s all in the hips. It seems that hip injuries are all the rage these days and not just in the NHL. Hip labrum injuries can also occur in golf, baseball, soccer and basketball as well as hockey. However, hip labrum tears are almost an epidemic in hockey over the past several years. Goaltenders are especially prone to labrum tears. This can be attributed in part to the butterfly style that most goalies use, however it’s not an injury that’s excusive to butterfly …
Flyers to play at Labatt Centre once more
The Philadelphia Flyers will play their annual preseason game at their “home away from home” against the Detroit Red Wings at the John Labatt Centre in London, Ontario, on Thursday, September 22 at 7 p.m. It will be the eighth straight season the Orange and Black have headed to one of Ontario’s minor-league bellwether towns to play an exhibition contest. London has long been home to the Knights, who play in the Ontario Hockey League, one of Canada’s major junior leagues. “London truly is our home away from home. The fan support here in London for the Flyers is outstanding,” …
