Flyers weather the storm, beat Hurricanes 5-3

For the first time in three opportunities in this slow start to the 2013 season, the Philadelphia Flyers were able to win the second part of back-to-back games. After a disheartening 3-2 loss to the Washington Capitals last night, the Flyers were able to bounce back against the Carolina Hurricanes Saturday night, winning 5-3. Matt Mangene, Jason Akeson and Shane Harper also lit the lamp for the Phantoms (18-21-3) as the team moved even in the standings with the Admirals (18-22-3) with 39 points. The Philadelphia Flyers dropped their third straight game on Friday night in Washington against the Capitals by the score of 3-2. Wojtek Wolski had the eventual game-winner for the Caps, while Nicklas Backstrom had a goal and an assist in the victory. Braden Holtby had 31 saves for Washington, as the only two Flyers to beat him on the night were Bruno Gervais and Brayden Schenn. Ilya Bryzgalov had yet another strong performance, but he suffered another loss, as he made 23 stops on the night. The biggest incident in the loss for the Flyers was John Erskine’s hit on Wayne …
