Czechoslovaks in Flyers Uniform – Petr Hubacek

It’s been a while since we’ve discussed Czechs and Slovaks in the Flyers’ system. Today, we’re going to talk about Petr Hubacek, who played only six games with the Flyers but is well known in Europe and has a bit of success with various teams during his career, including the Czech national team. Petr Hubacek was born in Brno and started his career in 1998 with HC Vitkovice, one of the best Extraliga teams during the 90’s. He played there only for two seasons, recording 27 points (11 goals and 16 assists) during a 73-game span. The Flyers selected him …

Flight Plan: Week of 01.21.2013

The Philadelphia Flyers had a rough start to this condensed 48-game schedule as they dropped both ends of a back-to-back over the weekend. A loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins is never fun, but despite looking flat in the first period, the Flyers really only lost by one goal as the Penguins scored an empty netter late in the third period to seal the win. Vanek and Flyers’ Penalty Kill Hand Philly Second Straight Loss

The Philadelphia Flyers suffered their second loss in 48 hours with a 5-2 defeat in Buffalo on Sunday afternoon. Thomas Vanek accrued five points on two goals and three assists in the Sabres’ first game of the 2013 season.  Tyler Myers registered the game-winning goal in the third period, and Ryan Miller stopped 27-of-29 shots. For the second straight start, you couldn’t blame Ilya Bryzgalov, as he denied 36 of Buffalo’s 40 shots on net. Both Sean Couturier and Claude Giroux scored for the Flyers in a loss that drops them to 0-2-0 in this shortened season. With the game tied …

GDT: Flyers vs. Sabres

The Flyers will try to bounce back from a rough loss against the Pittsburgh Penguins by spoiling the Buffalo Sabres’ season opener at First Niagra Center at 12:30 today. Former Sabre, Danny Briere, is expected to be out of the lineup again. Will the Flyers have a strong first period today? Can the power play be productive? Without difficult assignments like shutting down Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, will the Flyers be more of an offensive threat? We will find out the answers to those questions and more shortly.
