Even though the Trenton Titans will not have any more games to play after the end of this week, it doesn’t mean their players have thrown in the towel. Coming off an impressive resurgent week of almost nothing but victories, forwards Shane Harper and Jacob Cepis shared the ECHL’s Player of the Week honors. Two-thirds of Vince Williams’ top offensive line combined to strafe enemy goaltenders for 12 goals and 27 points. Riley Gill is on quite a streak backstopping the Reading Royals — the top overall seed in the Eastern Conference. Following in the footsteps and crease markings of Philipp Grubauer, all he’s done is post a 10-2-0 record with three shutouts, a 1.18 goals-against average and save percentage of .955 in 12 games with the Atlantic Division champions this season. Part of his success is his stinginess: allowing two goals or less in 11 of his 12 appearances. CBA Explained: Retained salary transactions

One of the most interesting wrinkles written into the new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) are retained salary transactions; or more simply, the ability for teams to retain salary on a player they trade away. Earlier this week the Philadelphia Flyers’ organization signed Kyle Flanagan, a forward that recently completed his senior year at St. Lawrence University, to a one-year entry-level contract. The 24-year-old, who finished second on St. Lawrence’s squad with 47 points in 35 games and was named a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award, will join the Adirondack Phantoms on an amateur tryout contract for the remainder of the 2012-2013 regular season. Quinnipiac earns top seed as Frozen Four field set

Quinnipiac University, regular-season champions in the ECAC, was selected as the top overall seed as the field of 16 teams was announced for the 2013 NCAA men’s ice hockey tournament on Sunday night. The Bobcats (27-7-5), who spent multiple weeks atop the national rankings in the second half of the campaign, will open up as the top program in the East Region at Providence, RI. Despite a sudden exit in the ECAC semifinals to eventual playoff champion Yale, the Connecticut-based school garnered enough notice to gain the lofty honor. Kennedy scores winner in overtime, Flyers lose 2-1 in Pittsburgh

Unfortunately for the Philadelphia Flyers they couldn’t continue their annual tradition of ending a lengthy Pittsburgh Penguins’ winning streak, as the Pens squeaked out a 2-1 overtime win at the CONSOL Energy Center tonight. Tyler Kennedy’s fifth goal of this shortened season beat Ilya Bryzgalov 2:33 into overtime, as Pittsburgh extended their winning streak to 12 games. Claude Giroux was the lone Flyer to beat Marc-Andre Fleury in the loss, while Sidney Crosby took advantage off a 5-on-3 power play late in the contest to send it past regulation. Fleury had 27 saves to Bryzgalov’s 33 to earn the win this …

Phantoms’ good aim sinks Pirates

Cal Heeter posted 40 saves and Adirondack tied its season record for fewest shots on goal, but the Phantoms pulled themselves together to post a 4-2 victory over the Portland Pirates on Sunday afternoon at the Glens Falls Civic Center.
