Flight Plan: Seven Games Left

The Philadelphia Flyers have seven games remaining in their 2013 season. Yesterday they lost to the Buffalo Sabres by a score of 1-0. They are not technically mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, but they will be this week with relative ease. Even if they win out, the Flyers would need all of the teams above them to lose just about every game. Four of the seven games on Philadelphia’s docket are this week against the Montreal Canadiens, the New York Rangers, the New Jersey Devils, and the Carolina Hurricanes. Enroth shuts out Flyers in Buffalo

The Philadelphia Flyers dropped their fourth straight contest today in Buffalo with a 1-0 loss to the Sabres. Jhonas Enroth stopped 29 shots for his first shutout this season, while Christian Ehrhoff had the game’s lone goal in the first minute of the third period. Despite a late-game flurry by the Orange and Black, the visitors couldn’t put a single shot past Enroth to extend the game. Thanksgiving is supposed to be a time of giving and appreciating the bounties accumulated over the past year. Former Flyers G Niittymaki calls it quits

After a National Hockey League career that included 234 games played, former Flyers goaltender Antero Niittymaki officially retired from the sport on Friday. Niittymaki played seven seasons in the NHL including his first five (2003-04; 2005-09) in Philadelphia. He retired with a record of 95-86-31, five shutouts, a save percentage of .902 and a goals-against average of 2.95. The 32-year-old goalie was plucked in the 1998 draft by Philadelphia in the sixth round (168th overall). After leaving the Flyers, Niittymaki played in Tampa Bay and San Jose and after playing the 2011-12 season in the American Hockey League for Worcester …
