The Adirondack Phantoms started their stretch of three games in three days on Friday night on home ice, but it was no comfort in a 4-3 loss to the Albany Devils in front of 4,606 at the Glens Falls Civic Center. In the first of four meetings within six games against their northern neighbors, Joe Whitney tallied the go-ahead and insurance goals for the Devils (15-13-7). Matt Anderson and Harri Pesonen also scored, while Keith Kinkaid stopped 27 shots. I cannot believe I’m posting. I don’t think the good people here at Flyers Faithful can believe I’m posting. I was beginning to believe that my posting regularity on here would be like the season — non-existent. I hope everyone had a lovely holiday and spent time with family. Flyers announce 2012-2013 roster

With only 24 hours until the puck drops on the 2012-2013 season, the Philadelphia Flyers have announced their roster. The biggest surprise comes in the form of 18 year old first round draft pick Scott Laughton who will begin the year with the big club. The modified contract slide rules for this shortened season will allow him to play five games before “burning” a year on his entry-level contract. Whether or not he will stay beyond those five games is unknown. However, when faced with the same situation last season, Sean Couturier ended up staying with the team all season. …

Talkin’ ‘bout practice I went to the Flyers open practice on Thursday and it was an odd experience. 15,000+ people showed up at the Wells Fargo Center for PRACTICE (not a game). I’m not sure what I expected going in, perhaps Scott Hartnell’s version of Cirque du Soleil? A magic show from Jody Shelley? But no, it was actually just cut and dry practice. The Trenton Titans’ losing streak reached seven games before they pulled off an overtime winner on Wednesday morning against the Reading Royals. The Philadelphia Flyers’ affiliate only grabbed one point over the 0-6-1 stretch, as their last two wins have come in overtime against the Royals at Sun National Bank Center. The Titans will be in New York tonight before they travel home to host a pair of games against the leaders of the North Division. The American Hockey League released the Eastern and Western Conference rosters for its mid-season celebration on Thursday evening. Quite predictably, the Adirondack Phantoms were not prominently featured, save for defenseman Erik Gustafsson. The 24-year-old Swede has totaled three goals and 14 points in 24 games, but has been hampered by an ankle injury suffered while blocking a shot roughly one week before Christmas. In theory, veterans could benefit from playing fewer games but the compacted schedule could put more strain on their bodies.
