The Philadelphia Flyers fired coach Peter Laviolette after a loss last Sunday to the Carolina Hurricanes. They promoted Craig Berube to head coach. Since then, they are 1-2-0, as they beat the Florida Panthers on Tuesday, but lost to the Phoenix Coyotes and the Detroit Red Wings, and have scored just five goals in that span. Berube wants to institute a more defensively conscious system, with emphasis on positional play, puck support, all while playing an uptempo, skating heavy game. Phantoms Get Bit Late In Third By Wolf Pack

The Adirondack Phantoms (1-1-0-1) performed well in their home opener in front of a sellout crowd of 5,031, only to fall to the Hartford Wolf Pack (3-0-0-1) in their final season in Glens Falls. Mark Alt and Ben Holmstrom scored for the Phantoms but it wasn’t enough as Brodie Dupont’s late third period goal was the difference in the game. It only took 1:16 into the game for the Phantoms to take their first penalty as Zack FitzGerald got called for boarding. The Flyers were 1-6-1 in 2006 when Bobby Clarke stepped down. It was the team’s worst record in 15 years. The Flyers are currently 1-5-0, 29th in the league, and already replaced head coach, Peter Laviolette. Is it time to make a switch at the GM level too or is Paul Holmgren’s job safe?

Detroit’s power play hurts Flyers, Philly loses 5-2

The Philadelphia Flyers lost for the fifth time this season tonight in Detroit, as they lost to the Red Wings by the count of 5-2. Niklas Kronwall had a goal and two assists and Henrik Zetterberg had two goals and one assist, while Daniel Alfredsson had three helpers in the win for Detroit. Jimmy Howard stopped 32 shots for the win, while his team produced three goals on the power play. Ray Emery had 25 stops for the visitors, while the pair of Tye McGinn and Erik Gustafsson potted goals for Philly. Unfortunately for the Flyers, this game was another loss, …
