Shane Harper signed an entry-level contract with the Philadelphia Flyers in March of 2010 after an impressive season with the Everett Silvertips of the Western Hockey League. As details slowly start to trickle out, and we await the ratification and publishing of the new NHL Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), there will surely be speculation. Some questions you can make safe assumptions about, while others just won’t be known until it is released. With that said, here are my top outstanding questions regarding the new CBA: Is the Wade Redden Rule official? In an earlier proposal, the NHL included what became known as the Wade Redden rule. Poll: Who should the Flyers exercise their compliance buyouts on?

As part of the tentatively agreed to CBA agreement between the NHL and NHLPA each team has two compliance buyouts they can use over the next two summers. Compliance buyouts would not impact the team’s salary cap. I’ve included the obvious candidates as well as, for the sake of being thorough, the other long-term contracts on the roster. *One thing to note, currently, like in the expired CBA, teams cannot buy out injured players. That could throw a wrench in any plans for the Flyers to buy out Chris Pronger. Feel free to explain your reasoning in the comments!

NHL and NHLPA reach tentative agreement, so what’s changed in this CBA?

The lockout lasted 113 days, but it is finally over. Early this morning, after missing over 500 games, the NHL and the NHL Player’s Association (NHLPA) reached a tentative agreement on a new Collective Bargaining Agreement. So what exactly has changed between the old CBA and the new one? The CBA has a 10 year term and includes a mutual opt-out clause after year eight. The expired CBA had a term of eight years, with an opt-out clause for both sides after seven years. Phantoms announce additional season in Glens Falls

Due to the delays in constructing the new Allentown, PA arena, the Phantoms were virtually homeless for the 2013-14 season. That changed today when the Phantoms and the city of Glens Falls made a joint announcement that they have come to an agreement for the Phantoms to play one more season at the Glens Falls Civic Center. Despite the fans being loyal to what ever team is playing in Glens Falls at the time, there was immediate concern that another season of Phantoms hockey would impede the search for another team. Trenton Update: 12/28-1/3

The Trenton Titans saw their five-game win streak and their seven-game point streak snapped this week, as the squad lost a pair of games to the Conference-leading Reading Royals. Although the Titans managed to eke out an overtime victory last Thursday against their division rival, Trenton lost back-to-back contests to Reading on Friday and Saturday to suffer consecutive losses for the first time since December 8-9. Friday’s setback was nearly a spectacular comeback, as the Titans lost 5-4 at the Sovereign Center. Stephen Schultz registered his 10th goal of the season and assisted on two others for his second three-point performance …

Trenton’s Noebels named ECHL Rookie of the Month

Trenton Titans forward and recent Adirondack Phantoms call-up Marcel Noebels has been named the ECHL’s Rookie of the Month for December. The 20-year-old native of Germany tallied nine goals and 12 assists for 21 points in 14 games last month helping the Titans go 7-4-3. Noebels tallied at least one point in 12 of 14 games during December, and recorded five multi-point games, including four points (3G, 1A) in a 7-6 win against Elmira on December 1, three points (1G, 2A) in a 5-2 win at Fort Wayne on December 22 and three assists in a highly-contentious 5-4 loss at …

Pair of Royals selected to start ECHL All-Star Game

Two members of a local minor-league hockey club have been selected to start in their league’s All-Star Game. They’re not Trenton Titans, but Reading Royals. Goaltender Philipp Grubauer and defenseman Denny Urban got the nod on Wednesday to take the ice first in the league’s mid-point competition for bragging rights on January 23 at Loveland, Colorado. Since being sent down from Hershey of the American Hockey League in late October, Grubauer has ignited his club’s rise to the top of the league standings by going 18-4-1 with a 2.28 goals-against average, .912 save percentage in 24 appearances.
