Frequent Flyer Miles: Boucher cut, Prospal possibly going to Europe, AHL training camps

In what’s been the busiest week in terms of movement since the beginning of the Frequent Flyer Miles column, a laundry list of former Philadelphia Flyers and draft picks, Adirondack Phantoms, and Trenton Titans changed clubs, signed extensions, or were involved in rumors. A handful of former Flyers were involved in transactions, as Brian Boucher, Vinny Prospal, David Laliberte, and Nikolay Zherdev found themselves on the move. According to the website Blick.ch, Boucher has been cut by EV Zug in the NLA. The former Flyer didn’t exactly impress EV Zug to keep his job, as he allowed 16 goals in …

Flyers Faithful is pleased to have Dave Isaac from the Courier-Post, Matt Brigidi from SB Nation, David Strehle from The Fourth Period, Anthony Mingioni from Center Ice Philly, and our very own Steve Jacot participate in the current iteration of Five Questions. This is the third of a five-part series focusing on the 2013-2014 preseason. (Please keep in mind that these questions were answered last week, so some of our questions may already have been resolved by the team.) Does Hal Gill stand a real chance of making the squad? Dave Isaac: No. They already have nine guys on one-way contracts and Marc-Andre Bourdon was waived to …

Training Camp Sprints: Depth up front a concern?

When Jake Voracek left last night’s game versus the New Jersey Devils in the second period with an upper-body injury, the Flyers were faced with the disastrous notion of losing a star before the season even started. With Wayne Simmonds also sidelined due to the flu, the team is suddenly forced to dress Mike Raffl, Adam Hall, Jay Rosehill, and Chris VandeVelde to round out the offense. They acknowledged after the game that Voracek’s injury is only minor, but if a few forwards were to go down does that type of lineup give you confidence? The offense hasn’t exactly gotten …

Then and Now: Kris Versteeg

In February of 2011, the Philadelphia Flyers added Kris Versteeg from the Toronto Maple Leafs, as they were looking for a piece to help them make a deep playoff run. In exchange for the forward, Philly dealt a first-round pick and a third-round pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. Toronto selected Stuart Percy with the first-round pick and Josh Leivo with the third-round pick. Versteeg’s first point as a Flyer came in Philly’s 4-2 decision over the Florida Panthers on February 16th, 2011, as the former Chicago Blackhawk set up Mike Richards’ for the opening goal of the contest. …
