From its perch in the steel and glass canyons of midtown Manhattan, the National Hockey League announced the cancellation of its 2012-13 regular-season schedule for the entire month of November on Friday. “The National Hockey League deeply regrets having to take this action. Trenton Update: 10/19-10/25

The Trenton Titans suffered their first loss of the season last weekend, but they’re still ranked near the top of the ECHL standings early in the season. The Titans were able to start off the season 4-0-0 before they recorded their first loss in Cincinnati on Saturday night. Trenton hopes a pair of home games against the Toledo Walleye this weekend will allow them to gain ground in the division, conference, and league. On Friday night, the Titans walked into the Ford Center and left with a 4-3 victory over the Evansville IceMen, an affiliate for both the St. Louis Blues and Columbus Blue Jackets. Luke Pither’s …

I’ll let you in on a little media secret. Every time a writer uses a column to answer mail, or even better, “clean out the mailbag,” it usually means they just don’t have a strong enough premise to carry a whole piece. Or they just ran out of time. I cop to both those this week. With the Phantoms having played only four games, two of them in the far reaches of St. John’s, Newfoundland, there isn’t a whole lot of new material to cover. Everything you wanted to know about the CBA but were afraid to ask Here are your updates from the past week on the ongoing collective bargaining agreement talks from around the Web. If this whole thing wasn’t sad, it would be funny. The NHL refused to meet with the NHLPA unless the union works from the owners last proposal. I officially hate everyone involved in this. Another week, another blunder by the NHL

Well, the National Hockey League has done it again! On Wednesday morning, reports began to surface about the league allowing team management personnel to speak one-on-one to their players regarding the NHL’s latest offer in an attempt to sway them towards agreeing to it. This allowance comes after the owners and general managers were forbidden from speaking to their players, and were threatened with heavy fines if they were to do so — including a $1 million penalty for offering any thoughts about the ongoing Collective Bargaining Agreement mess. Two weeks ago on Crashing the Crease, I examined some of Ilya Bryzgalov’s goals against in action for the KHL’s CSKA Moscow. At the time, Philly’s favorite cosmonaut had an 0-2 record, 4.02 goals-against average and a save percentage of .857. He was also made a healthy scratch at one point in his run, causing much concern for those able to watch him back home. I miss hockey. I know it can be found all around me, but I miss it in its most elite form, embraced by the casual independent and celebrated on televisions and in various media formats across the globe. Then and Now: Freddy Meyer

In May of 2003, the Philadelphia Flyers signed defenseman Freddy Meyer to an entry-level contract. The mobile d-man was coming off a season at Boston University where he had five goals and 16 assists in 38 games as the Terriers’ captain. During the 2003-2004 season with the Flyers’ organization, Meyer spent the majority of the campaign in the AHL with the Philadelphia Phantoms. He had the second-most goals for a blue liner on the team with 14 goals in 59 games, while John Slaney led the team with 19 goals in the same number of tilts as Meyer.
