Sean Couturier is kind of a big deal

It’s easy to look at Sean Couturier’s final line for the 2013 season and claim that he had a down year for the Philadelphia Flyers. Four goals, eleven assists, for fifteen points, and a minus-eight in 46 games. That’s good for being tied for eleventh in goals, seventh in assists, eighth in points, and fifth worst on the team in plus-minus. Frankly, most people expected more from the highly promising young center. By now it’s not a novel concept to write that there is a whole lot more to reviewing Couturier’s season than just these surface-level statistics. This is particularly …

Shelley retires, one more ex-Flyer in Columbus

It seems everything about Jody Shelley has been done quietly ever since he arrived in Philadelphia thanks to a mystifying three-year, four-plus-million free-agent deal signed in July of 2010. On Friday, several outlets reported that the square-jawed Manitoba native has decided to call it a career. And in an ironic twist, he’ll become the latest ex-Philadelphia Flyer to wind up with the Columbus Blue Jackets. Hockey Hilarity: BizNasty Training Hard

This week, for hockey hilarity, I decided it was time to revisit the twitter account of an old friend: Phoenix Coyotes forward Paul Bissonnette. He’s not really my friend, (I like to pretend he is) but he’s a funny dude, and that’s what this is all about when you think really long and hard about it like I do every week. Anywho, Bissonnette sent this out about a week ago: Training is going really well this summer, you guys. Not trying to throw the world out of orbit, but I might score a few this season. — Paul Bissonnette (@BizNasty2point0) …

Frequent Flyer Miles: Nodl to play in Switzerland, Potulny’s injury results in departure from KHL

We are now at the point of the offseason where the biggest news related to former Philadelphia Flyers has reached Andreas Nodl signing in Switzerland and Ryan Potulny being released from a KHL squad. The list of players who were once linked to the Orange and Black and endured transactions this week is still rather long, but Nodl and Potulny are the only two who actually played a game for the Flyers. Nodl, who spent last season with the Carolina Hurricanes’ organization and HC Innsbruck in the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga during the lockout, has signed with Lausanne HC in …

Reviewing “Flight Plan”

Amidst the chaos of the offseason, the Philadelphia Flyers somehow managed to find time to release the debut episode of their new behind the scenes mini series, aptly dubbed “Flight Plan” (video below). If you were starving for some new Flyers fodder, you were likely just served a delicious first course that left you begging for more. There are a lot of pros and cons to the team’s approach to an inside look at the brain trust as they prepped for the 2013 NHL Draft. Considering how old school the team is, you have to applaud their willingness to expose …
