Syvret moved to Rangers for Newbury

Bid adieu once more to defenseman Danny Syvret, as he was dealt to the New York Rangers on Monday afternoon in exchange for Kris Newbury. American Hockey League fans should be familiar with the 31-year-old winger, alternately described as a “power forward” and “enforcer.” Newbury picked up 20 goals and 62 points, along with 127 penalty minutes in 70 games for the Connecticut Whale a season ago, right on the heels of a 25-goal season in Hartford the year before. Coming into yesterday’s draft, it was clear that the Flyers needed to stock up on prospects as a whole and specifically defensemen. In that regard, the team accomplished their mission. However, the moves that they made — as well as ones that they did not — result in some unanswered questions. The Flyers entered Sunday with six picks in the 2013 Draft, and there was plenty of speculation as to some potential trades. Braydon Coburn was heavily linked to Edmonton, and at several times throughout the draft, it appeared as if the trade may happen. It never did, however.
