A rough sketch of the Puckmovers' symbol, the all-seeing eye of the NHL

The ILL-uminati

Sometimes you choose the path, other times it chooses you. It’s time to lift the veil, open your eyes and perceive the flawed world in your 180-degree field of vision for what it really is. Something is rotten in the sport of hockey, in a place far, far to the West of Denmark. The Philadelphia Flyers mysteriously failed to materialize Ryan Suter, and Zach Parise, and then coveted restricted free agent and super amazing defenseman Shea Weber. The Flyers don’t miss out on guys like this. My nose is to the air and it smells like the wind is blowing …

Jim Jackson: The Flyers Faithful interview

Jim Jackson has been a part of the fabric of Flyers hockey ever since he was brought to the organization as the radio play-by-play voice back in 1993. On the advent of his 20th year calling NHL action here in Philadelphia, JJ was kind enough to talk to Bob H. on a variety of topics related to his journey through the years that has landed him with one of the top clubs in the National Hockey League and as a fixture for not only hockey, but also Phillies baseball. BH: It’s common knowledge that you’re from Upstate New York. From …

CBA 101: Offseason Salary Cap

During the offseason, the upper limit of the salary is temporarily raised by 10 percent so that teams have the ability to manage their rosters with a little more freedom. Many people turn a blind eye to this fact and solely look at the real upper limit of $70.2 million; often times already putting players out of their minds that are unlikely to play with the team that season. However, in the case of a team like the Flyers, this temporary upper limit can sometimes be a concern. From the Collective Bargaining Agreement, Section 50.5 (c)(ii)(B): Nevertheless, in order to …

Help Wanted

Here we are, Flyers fans. Offers to Ryan Suter and Zach Parise were procured and rejected, thankfully. A mega offer sheet to the tune of 14 years and $110 million dollars was matched by Nashville for all-world defenseman Shea Weber — a contract so large that it could cripple the Nashville franchise if they don’t sell out every game and make a deep playoff run. So what do the Flyers do now? More specifically, what does Paul Holmgren do now? We knew before that Homer has marbles (see “Mike Richards and Jeff Carter, trades of”). We know Homer’s cajones got …

Why You Heff Ta Be Mad?

It’s been a tough last few days for Flyers fans. A tough offseason, even. The team wound up losing out on Shea Weber, and hasn’t really made any splash-worthy moves so far this summer. Of course, it’s still early and the team still has plenty of time to do something… though, at this point, their somethings are limited. Regardless, many Flyers fans are feeling pretty bummed right about now. So here are some hilarious Flyers moments to help cheer ‘em up! Flyers re-sign Voracek

The Philadelphia Flyers finally made it official on Thursday afternoon, revealing that winger and restricted free agent Jakub Voracek was signed to a multi-year contract extension. This morning, the Czech website, iSport, reported that the pact was worth $17 million over four years, meaning an annual cap hit of $4.25 million. The 22-year-old from Kladno recorded a career high 18 goals to go with 31 assists in 78 games during his first season with the Orange and Black. He added two goals — including an overtime winner in Game 1 of the Eastern Quarterfinals in Pittsburgh and eight helpers in …
