Frequent Flyer Miles: Camp Movement, Hedberg trying out with Rangers, Pitkanen out for 2013-2014

Several of the moves involving former Philadelphia Flyers and Flyers’ draft picks this week relate to NHL training camps taking shape. In addition to a Professional Try-Out for Hal Gill, the drama surrounding Daniel Cleary, and an entry-level contract handed out to Taylor Leier, a pair of goaltenders once linked to the Orange and Black are involved with other NHL clubs. One netminder is Johan Hedberg, who was invited to the New York Rangers training camp on a Professional Try-Out. With Martin Biron, yet another former Flyers’ goalie, out of camp due to personal reasons, Hedberg will join the Blueshirts and try …

Then and Now: Luca Sbisa

Whether you love his moves or hate his moves, you can’t deny Paul Holmgren is willing to make a bold trade when he feels his team needs it. One of those trades came in the summer of 2009, when Holmgren was able to grab Chris Pronger from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for several pieces. Frequent Flyer Miles: Bryzgalov to train in Sweden, Foster leaves for KHL, O’Donnell joins Kings’ management

The group of Ilya Bryzgalov, Kurtis Foster, Sean O’Donnell, and Nikolay Zherdev earned new titles within the last seven days. The most intriguing news since last Wednesday may be Bryzgalov’s move, as he will train with Erik Granqvist, who is a coach for Farjestad in the SHL. The move is said to be for training, despite the fact many think Brzygalov will eventually find a spot on Farjestad’s roster …

Then and Now: Denis Gauthier

The 2013 Eastern Conference Finals will put the Boston Bruins against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Wade Redden will try and help Boston’s blue line slow down Pittsburgh’s offensive crew, which includes former Calgary Flame Jarome Iginla. Both Redden and Iginla were picked in the first round of the 1995 NHL Draft, as Redden went second overall behind Bryan Berard and Iginla went 11th overall to the Dallas Stars. Nine picks after Iginla the Calgary Flames picked Denis Gauthier. After being named to the QMJHL All-Star team and winning the Emile “Butch” Bouchard Trophy for QMJHL’s best defenseman in 1995-1996, Gauthier went …

Atlantic Watch: Flyers Surging, Islanders continue point streak, Rangers hanging on to playoff spot, Devils’ skid reaches 10 games

After putting themselves in a very big hole, the Philadelphia Flyers ended this week with two emphatic wins to show that they could be a playoff team. It might be too little too late, but the Orange and Black will carry their two-game winning streak into their upcoming seven-day stretch.
