Six first period goals, 54 penalty minutes, and one goalie change were all elements of the Flyers’ 5-4 win in Game 2 of their Eastern Conference Quarterfinals matchup with the Sabres. Brian Boucher made 20 saves on 21 shots in a relief appearance for Sergei Bobrovsky as five different Flyers scored to tie the series at one. Claude Giroux had a goal and an assist while Matt Carle, Andrej Meszaros, and Kimmo Timonen all had two assists in the crucial win for Philly, whose power play was more spirited than in Game 1 but still ended up just 1-for-10. The …
Flyers take down Isles, lock up Atlantic Division
It took until Game 82, but the Philadelphia Flyers at last became the champions of the Atlantic Division. Andrej Meszaros registered a career high of four points on two goals and two assists, as the Flyers concluded the regular season with a 7-4 victory over the New York Islanders at Wells Fargo Center. Scott Hartnell joined Meszaros with pair of tallies for Philadelphia (47-23-12), which clinched its first division crown in seven years and locked up the second seed in the Eastern Conference. The Flyers will host Buffalo in the opening round of the playoffs beginning later this week. “It …
Five Questions: Will the age of the defense be a factor in the postseason again? Will Pronger, Timonen, and/or O’Donnell run out of gas?
Flyers Faithful asked Travis Hughes from SB Nation and Broad Street Hockey, Matt P. From The 700 Level, Mark Trible from The Checking Line and our very own Pavialax five questions about the playoffs. We are very grateful that they took the time to share their opinions and predictions with us. Each day of this week, we will run the answers to one of those questions. Today’s question is: Will the age of the defense be a factor in the postseason again? Will Pronger, Timonen, and/or O’Donnell run out of gas? Travis Hughes: I think it’s a legitimate concern, but …
Elias Nets Hat-Trick, Flyers Lose Second Straight
For the second straight night, the Flyers were handed a loss by a team currently not in the playoff picture as the Devils won 4-2 in Jersey. He may have not scored the game-winning goal, but Patrik Elias essentially won the game for the Devils netting a hat-trick. Brian Rolston had all three of the primary assists on Elias’s goals and Johan Hedberg made 34 saves on 36 shots to give the Devils their third win of the season against the Flyers. With the Penguins and Capitals idle tonight, the Flyers had a chance to move closer to clinching both the division and …
Mason Blanks Flyers, Thrashers Win 1-0
Chris Mason had his game of the year tonight as he stoned the conference leading Flyers for 43 saves in the Thrashers’ 1-0 win. With his only help coming from an Evander Kane bank shot off of Nik Antropov’s skate halfway through the third period, Mason made 19 saves in the third period to shut the Flyers out for the first time since their embarrassing 7-0 loss against the Rangers. The Thrashers’ third win on the year against the Flyers was their first win in regulation and drops the Flyers’ record to 46-21-10. Evidently charged from Tuesday night’s win in …

Flyers Beat Desperate Leafs 3-2
Visiting a desperate Toronto team, the Flyers were able to beat the Maple Leafs 3-2 tonight. Claude Giroux had a goal and an assist helping the Flyers win their second straight game after dropping four straight. The win improves the Flyers’ record to 42-19-6. A flaw of the Flyers game as a whole is the powerplay. Last game against Edmonton, a Jeff Carter tally was the only goal registered on a five minute advantage during the opening period. Tonight, Mike Komisarek received a, what some might call a questionable, five minute major for boarding Daniel Carcillo just before the four minute mark in the …
