Ranking the Flyers top 20 prospects using NHLE
Last year, I wrote about a method of evaluating prospects using NHL Equivalencies or NHLE. NHLE allows us to figure out the NHL equivalent of prospect’s performance outside of the NHL. This enables us to better compare prospects playing in various leagues where the level of play is often quite different. I decided to come up with a prospects ranking using NHLE as my guide. Last year I simply ranked the prospects from the best NHLE to the worst, but this time I am taking into account age and league because those are big factors as well. A 20 year …
Q&A with Tim McManus on which Phantoms may contribute
Tim McManus covers the Adirondack Phantoms for The Post-Star in Glens Falls, NY. Follow his blog The Phantoms Forum here. Also make sure to follow Tim on Twitter @PSPhantoms. Which Phantoms do you think are NHL ready at this point and have the potential of winning a job with the big club? I think the two obvious candidates are Ben Holmstrom and Erik Gustafsson. He’s strong on faceoffs, reliable on the penalty kill, and his offense has been coming along, although he’ll probably never score a ton of goals at the NHL level guy. Just …
Putting some of the roster changes in perspective
In order to make sense of the destruction left in the wake of Hurricane Holmgren, we need to compare these roster changes to a version of the 2010 Flyers and see how those parts changed. Here is a look at that the forwards from team: Gagne – Richards – Carter Hartnell – Briere – Leino JvR – Giroux – Asham Carcillo/Powe – Betts – Laperriere So, what’s different? A lot, on paper. Here’s my attempt at projecting the 2012 offensive lines, barring any other changes: JvR – Giroux – Voracek Hartnell – Briere – Jagr Nodl – Schenn – Simmonds …
Hypothetically speaking: 2012 Phantoms edition

What’s up with that fourth line? Where’s player X? I love player X! A: This is just a premature, quick and dirty concept to illustrate the newfound depth in the organization. I’m not actually advocating these should be the lines or the roster at this point. Step back from the edge. Everything will be …
