Bruins Hang a Banner, Flyers Win a Hockey Game

On Thursday night, the Flyers returned to the site where their Stanley Cup dreams ended last season. This time, the Flyers had a new goalie, several new players, and a desire for revenge. The result was a 2-1 victory on a night the Boston Bruins raised their 2011 Stanley Cup banner to the rafters. After Brad Marchand scored the first goal of the NHL season, Claude Giroux and Jakub Voracek each scored for Philly within a 42-second span late in the first period. Ilya Bryzgalov, fresh from his $51 million, nine-year deal, made quite the impression in his first regular-season …

Thomas Saves 52 In Bruins 3-2 OT Win

A goal 31 seconds into the game and 54 shots on net weren’t enough for the Flyers to win tonight as the Bruins grabbed a 2-0 series lead heading into Boston. Tim Thomas had 52 saves on the night including 32 in the third period and overtime. David Krejci scored his third goal of the series 14 minutes into overtime while James van Riemsdyk had a two-goal night as the Flyers look to win both games in Boston to even the series at two. A strong start was something the Flyers lacked last game. This game the Flyers dictated play …

Bruins Pound Flyers 7-3 In Game 1

The Bruins aren’t the Sabres and the Flyers learned that the hard way Saturday afternoon, dropping the opening game of the Eastern Conference Semifinals 7-3. Tim Thomas had 31 saves on 34 shots while both David Krejci and Brad Marchand had two-goal games to help the Bruins win. Patrice Bergeron had three assists as Boston grabbed the 1-0 lead in the series. It was the first time since 1988 that Boston scored at least seven times in a playoff game, and it was the first time in five years that Philadelphia allowed that many. In front of their home crowd, …

Atlantic Watch: 3/23-3/29

How fitting is it that Scott Hartnell scored the goal last night against the Penguins (in Pittsburgh) that may have saved the division title for the Flyers? Just when it looked as though the Flyers were gearing up to sleepwalk through another game in their free fall from the top, the most despised player in Pittsburgh scores a game shifting goal to start a string of four unanswered goals putting Philly in a more spacious lead at the top of the Atlantic. Hartnell didn’t score the game-winner, but his goal did seem to wake the team up as Claude Giroux scored the eventual game-winner only forty-seven seconds …

Bruins Top Flyers 2-1 With A Goal Late

Another lackadaisical and passionless effort from the Flyers resulted in another loss for Philly tonight as the Bruins edged out a 2-1 win. Brad Marchand’s power-play goal with three minutes and forty-three seconds left in regulation gave Boston their only lead of the night. Tim Thomas helped to shut down the Flyers tonight by saving twenty-seven of twenty-eight shots. The loss is the Flyers’ third in four games and drops Philly to 45-20-10 on the season. The opening minutes saw a lot of action in the Flyers’ defensive zone. However, Kris Versteeg helped the Flyers get on the scoreboard first. …
