The second day of the IIHF World Championship is in the books. I’d like to summarize the most important moment of the past 24 hours. USA – Austria 5-3 Matt Carle 0+0 17:48 TOI Austria led the game by two goals just six minutes into the first period. Team USA overcame a bad start and eventually won the game 5-3. Sweden – Czech Republic 2-1 Jakub Voracek 0+1, 16:02 TOI, -1 Erik Gustafsson 0+1, 22:13 TOI, +1 After a good first game against Belarus, team Czech Republic lost to Sweden. The Flyers season is over. We fans went on a long ride through a short amount of time. 48 games in fewer than 100 days. Blood, sweat, tears, injuries and fatigue plagued this 2013 Flyers team from the start of the season. But, let’s not forget, the Flyers gave us plenty of memories from this year. Another pair of Philadelphia Flyers’ prospects made their NHL debut this week, as both Matthew Konan and Jason Akeson appeared in contests for the Orange and Black. Konan made his debut in the Flyers’ 2-1 win on Thursday against the New York Islanders at the Wells Fargo Center. He had two hits and a blocked shot in 13:09 of ice time. In Saturday’s 2-1 win over the Ottawa Senators, both Konan and Akeson suited up for the Flyers. Team Canada’s World Championship roster has Flyers flair

When the 2013 World Championships take place in both Helsinki and Stockholm from May 3-19, Team Canada will be there, with a dose of Philadelphia Flyers flair. As reported last night by TSN of Canada, four members of the Orange and Black were invited, and all have accepted out of the first 13 players to be named to the roster. Claude Giroux, Wayne Simmonds, Matt Read and Luke Schenn will all be sporting the Maple Leaf in Red and Black overseas. Giroux ranks first on the club with 33 assists and 47 points in 47 games. On Tuesday night, Oliver Lauridsen’s first NHL goal came courtesy of a huge mistake made by Boston’s Zdeno Chara. This time, Lauridsen’s goal was all his own as he notched the game winner in a 2-1 victory over the New York Islanders. Ilya Bryzgalov got the win for the Flyers making 21 saves. Kevin Poulin took the loss for the Islanders making 28 saves of his own. After a lackluster second and third period that left the score stagnant at 1-1 for over thirty minutes, Lauridsen scored at 13:29 of the third to breathe some life into the game. For …

In a pre-game ceremony held before the Philadelphia Flyers and New York Islanders on Thursday night, the organization handed out its annual team awards. Read on to learn which players received MVP honors, the award for best defenseman, and the most improved player award, among others. With a little help from an unexpected source, the Philadelphia Flyers won 5-2 over the Boston Bruins on Tuesday night, their second strong effort in a row — despite being out of playoff contention. Oliver Lauridsen scored his first NHL goal 11:31 into the second period, with some help from Boston’s Zdeno Chara. Lauridsen dumped the puck into the Bruins’ end, where Chara attempted to throw it back around the boards. Simmonds’ hat trick powers Flyers past Hurricanes in Carolina

The Philadelphia Flyers were able to post a win in their first game since knowing they were eliminated from playoff contention, as they beat the Carolina Hurricanes 5-3 on the road tonight. Wayne Simmonds recorded his first career hat trick and added on an assist, while Matt Read had a goal and two assists in the win. Steve Mason earned the decision in the high-scoring affair, as he denied 26 of the Hurricanes’ 29 shots on net.
