We’re less than a week into NHL free agency, and we’ve already had to say goodbye to a number of Flyers. Sergei Bobrovsky is off the force. James van Riemsdyk went from playing hockey in his backyard to playing for the “Yankees of hockey” (minus all the winning). Matt Carle has returned to fight crime with Hulk Hogan in Thunder Bay. And yet the one that I’ll miss the most is Jaromir Jagr. When the Flyers signed Jagr last year, I was skeptical. A 40-year-old player who had spent his last few seasons in the KHL? Then and Now: Josh Gratton

Tim Ramholt never played a game for the Philadelphia Flyers. In fact, the only NHL game Ramholt ever took part in was as a member of the Calgary Flames in the club’s  4-1 defeat to the Anaheim Ducks on November 29, 2007. Some thoughts on round one

First off, kudos to everyone who covered the draft live last night. People may joke every time a tweet pops up about a GM working the phones but those reporters worked their butts off last night. The Penguins also got a lot better on paper in 2010 when they reshaped their defense by acquiring Zbynek Michalek and Paul Martin. How did that work out? Michalek was traded back to the Phoenix Coyotes …

2011-2012 NHL Awards: Recap

In case you missed the NHL Awards (lucky you) or if you want to re-live them (and who doesn’t?) here is a recap.   The Lulz feature was originally inspired by the lolcats site but features hockey pictures with funny, quirky, ironic or just plain mean captions. This feature should run weekly on Fridays; TGIFWL (Thank Goodness It’s Friday With Lulz).

Flyers known to keep Summers interesting

It’s now the offseason, and with it comes a ton of rumors about potential trades or acquisitions — thus, the moniker of “Silly Season.” This particular one is especially interesting, with names like Rick Nash, Bobby Ryan, and Ryan Suter floating around as either pending free agents or possible trade bait. As we learned last summer, the Flyers have no problem with pulling the trigger on huge deals if it means improving their team for the future. So it’s not completely out there to think that they might make another humungous big deal during the era of sweltering heat, whether …
