The need without G

I’ll just let this quote from Paul Holmgren speak for itself. “Claude reported not feeling very good today. Over the past few days, his symptoms have gradually gotten worse.  He will be out indefinitely with a concussion.” There are multitudes contained within. I’m tired of parsing every statement, looking for the grains of truth hidden within the untruths. Right now, the expectations of every single Flyers fan and media member should be lowered to near-rock-bottom status. We’re in full-blown emergency mode, so every loss should be taken with a shaker full of salt and every victory should be savored as …

Giroux out for Tuesday

Let the rending of garments and gnashing of teeth begin. New media darling Claude Giroux will not be with the Flyers for Tuesday’s important road test in Washington against the Capitals due to his “upper-body” injury suffered at the end of the second period of Saturday’s win over Tampa Bay. “Claude is continuing to feel better,” Flyers GM Paul Holmgren said in a Monday press conference. “He will not travel with the team today and will be seen by our doctor again tomorrow.” As it stands now, there is no timetable for Giroux to return to the ice, and not …

3 on 3 for the week of 12.11.2011

Welcome to this week’s 3-on-3, where we look back on the week that was for the Philadelphia Flyers. The Flyers won all three games last week to gain 6 points and take over the overall lead in the Eastern Conference from the Pittsburgh Penguins. Let’s look at this week’s 3 “hot” and 3 “not”:  3 ”hot”: Claude Giroux: “G” has continued his stellar play and has taken over the scoring lead in the NHL with 39 points, 3 points ahead of Toronto’s Phil Kessel. Claude totaled one goal and 7 assists in the 3 games but left in the second …

Flight Plan 12.11.2011

The Philadelphia Flyers have now won five games in a row and are sitting atop the Eastern Conference standings with 39 points and 101 goals scored, being the first team in the NHL to reach 100 goals this season. Peter Laviolette’s club has overcome a lot of criticism and adversity through these first 28 games to get to this point, but they may have to push forward without two more of their best players in Claude Giroux and Ilya Bryzgalov. Giroux is currently leading the NHL in scoring with 39 points, three points ahead of resurgent Toronto Maple Leafs winger …

Flyers win fifth in a row…at a cost to be determined

It seems so unfair that for everything good that has happened to the Philadelphia Flyers this season, there’s a constant shadow waiting to envelop the light. On Saturday in South Philadelphia, the Orange and Black reeled off their fifth consecutive win with a 5-2 decision over the Tampa Bay Lightning, but lost star forward Claude Giroux in the second period to what appears to be a head injury. As if the hockey gods wanted to give us something more substantive to worry about than the moaning over the Bolts’ vaunted 1-3-1 defense, Giroux was taken off the ice late in …
