Welcome to Around the Net, a weekly look through linkage at the Philadelphia Flyers and other news from around the NHL. Just a quick note, today is my birthday. NHL Fandom Survey: Flyers/Penguins best rivalry in the league; Penguins the most loved and hated franchise

A friend recently pointed out an extremely interesting survey he discovered on Reddit. The survey asked for feedback from NHL fans on how they felt about all of the other franchises throughout the league. For every franchise you could choose love, like, indifferent, dislike, or hate. At first glace it would appear that Joe Sakic and Seth Jones have very little in common. Sakic was born in Burnaby, BC, with the sole purpose of playing ice hockey. The Gagarin Cup Playoffs: KHL Postseason Starts Today

The KHL playoffs start today, as 16 of the league’s 26 clubs compete for the Gagarin Cup. Since the NHL and KHL are huge competitors, it’s interesting to look at the players on the current KHL playoff teams to see just how many are former Philadelphia Flyers or NHLers. On top of that, some clubs’ prospects are in the 16-team field. Then and Now: Joe Sacco

Joe Sacco played for four different teams in the NHL over 12 seasons before he signed a contract with the Philadelphia Flyers’ organization in January of 2003. Sacco split time with the Flyers and the Philadelphia Phantoms during the 2002-2003 campaign. After producing four goals and three assists in six games in the AHL, Sacco was called up to the Flyers and spent the rest of the season in the NHL. He had a total of six points in 34 games for the Flyers with five assists along with 20 PIMs and an even plus/minus rating. The right winger’s only …

After playing the 2007-2008 season in the Elitserien, defenseman Ossi Vaananen returned to the NHL to play for the Philadelphia Flyers. The Finn signed a one-year contract worth $1 million for the 2008-2009 campaign. Vaananen participated in a total of 46 games for Philly. He registered nine assists and ten points overall. The blue liner also deposited his final goal in the NHL (go to :55), which came in the first period of the Flyers’ 5-4 shootout win over the Anaheim Ducks on January 2nd, 2009. In the 2001 NHL Draft, the Philadelphia Flyers picked Swedish defenseman David Printz 225th overall in the seventh round. The blue liner was selected two picks before the Colorado Avalanche chose Marek Svatos and four picks before the New Jersey Devils chose Aaron Voros. Printz joined the Flyers’ organization in the 2004-2005 regular season, as he spent time with the Trenton Titans and the Philadelphia Phantoms. The d-man only played in two games for the Titans recording an assist in the process. He participated in 50 regular season games with the Calder Cup winners posting a goal and five assists along with 66 PIMs. For …
