Flyers draft day predictions

We are at a point in time where we can start counting down hours until the draft but there’s still plenty of time for things to happen between now and when Mr. Irrelevant gets picked. So, let’s take a stab at what happens between now and then in what may be the most unpredictable draft day in years. (Keep in mind that this is just for fun and I have about as much of a chance of being right as I do of winning the lottery.) The Flyers have been linked to Pittsburgh defenseman, Kris Letang, who allegedly has Philadelphia …

Hockey Hilarity: Luongo vs. Schneider

Friday funnies brought to you straight from hockey’s own players, media personnel, and broadcast botches. We’ll be mucking it up every week right here, examining puck ups, puns, tweets, and more! As not too much has been funny in Philadelphia Flyers land lately, we’ve had to go to Canada, yes all the way to Canada, to find something for you fine people to laugh at for this week’s Hockey Hilarity. As everyone …

Atlantic Watch: 2/22-2/28

The end of their four-game road trip wasn’t pretty for the Flyers, as their only two points came in a shootout win against the Calgary Flames on Saturday night. With a pair of shutout losses, the Flyers have now been shut out five times this season. The Flyers hope two games against Eastern Conference teams below them in the standings will help them gain ground in a fight for home-ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs. On Thursday, the Flyers failed to put a puck past Devan Dubnyk a single time in a 2-0 loss against the Edmonton Oilers. Taylor …

Considering the possibility of a Bobrovsky trade

There’s something humorous about the fact that the Flyers waited until they had arguably their best goaltending prospect in ages before acquiring a bona fide starter. As a result, Sergei Bobrovsky, a once little-known goalie who posted solid numbers for Novokuznetsk Metallurg, a bad KHL team, ceased being the goalie of the future and became perceived as an overpaid, expendable backup in the mere bat of an eyelash. Barely a year after committing three years and nearly $3 million to Bobrovsky, it was reported that the Flyers began shopping him. It’s a long fall for someone who showed such promise and …

Looking at the impact of the Halak trade

Jaroslav Halak, the 25-year-old Slovakian netminder, was the arguably the best available goaltending asset this offseason. His stock skyrocketed after an unprecedented playoff run where he backstopped the 8th seed Montreal Canadiens to victories over the top team in the East and the defending Stanley Cup champions while boasting the best save percentage in the playoffs. GMs were apparently told a while ago that he was on the block but the trade of Halak to St. Louis for Lars Eller and Ian Schultz came as a shock to the rest of us. Carey Price was supposed to be Montreal’s next …
