The Philadelphia Flyers beat the Montreal Canadiens tonight by a 5-2 count to earn their 1,000th home victory in franchise history. Chris Pronger tied a career-high with 4 assists, Mike Richards had 2 assists, and Danny Briere had a goal and an assist as the Flyers dominated the visitors for the majority of the game. Sergei Bobrovsky would make 29 saves for his 21st win on the year. Milestone Madness

It’s amazing to think the Flyers are on pace to reach 1,000 home wins in franchise history.  It would have been sweet to see the Orange and Black do it this past Saturday against the rival New Jersey Devils, but Johan Hedberg and Patrik Elias had a little something to say in that regard. Anywhoo…Philly gets another crack at a grand tonight against the Montreal Canadiens, in the final meeting of a four-game regular-season series which serves as the Flyers’ final contest before the All-Star Break. Since our hockey club, which sits atop the NHL standings, is so close to this momentous occasion, it’s …

Flight Plan week of 01.23.2011

The Philadelphia Flyers went 3-1-0 this past week, losing to the lowly New Jersey Devils as they did not get up for the game from the get go because the Devils are statistically the worst team in hockey right now, but have been playing better under Jacques Lemaire. The Flyers should have picked up a point at least in every game, but it looks like they were probably looking ahead to today’s matchup against the Chicago Blackhawks in what will be the only meeting between the two 2010 Stanley Cup Finalists. The Flyers will then play the Montreal Canadiens on …

The Flyers extended their winning streak to 4 games tonight as they dominated the Ottawa Senators 6-2. The scoring started early with a pair of goals from Danny Briere and Mike Richards in the first 4 1/2 minutes. Richards’ second goal on the night extended the Flyers lead to three, but another collapse from the Flyers allowed Ottawa right back into the game. A Milan Michalek short-handed breakaway goal and a Nick Foligno strike late in the second cut the lead to one entering the third period. Three goals in the third put the game away for Philly as the game …

A look at potential moves at the deadline

With the NHL trade deadline over a month away it would be a nice time to look at possible moves the Flyers could make. Internet rumors have the Flyers involved in "major trades" and involved with names like Jarome Iginla and Tomas Vokoun, but the reality is the Flyers won’t be making any major moves. According to Capgeek, the Flyers have less than $1.3M in cap space which means the likes of Iginla and Vokoun are out of their price range. They would need to move major salary in return to make such a deal, but a team that is …
