Hockey Hilarity: Robert Ryan Says Silly Season Is Silly

Friday funnies brought to you straight from hockey’s own players, media personnel, and broadcast botches. We’ll be mucking it up every week right here, examining puck ups, puns, tweets, and more! Since the Stanley Cup Finals are upon us, and the Philadelphia Flyers have already started to leak or announce some of the things they’re going to be doing as part of their plan this offseason, a name has come up in rumors (again!?) that has been circulated for, well, forever with the Orange and Black. That name is none other than Anaheim Ducks forward, and Cherry Hill native, Bobby Ryan. Bobby …

Holmgren: Briere’s gone

The inevitable has been confirmed. Danny Briere’s tenure with the Flyers will come to an end once the Stanley Cup Finals are over. A statement released by GM Paul Holmgren this afternoon is as follows: “I met with Danny last week and informed him of our decision to use a compliance buy out on his contract. This was a very difficult decision for us to make as Danny has been a very good player for us over the past six years. Danny came to our organization as a free agent in July of 2007 and has been a tremendous player, …

Flyers are trying for Ryan

One rumor that has always been in the head of Philadelphia Flyers fans is that of local boy Bobby Ryan. Scoring 30-or-more goals in four of his six seasons with the Ducks proves that he is indeed an elite forward.  Spanning his career, Ryan has played in 378 contests.  Scoring 147 goals and 142 assists for a total of 289 points; he also carries a rating of plus-40 and has also pumped home …

Could the Flyers be targeting Bernier?

As the Flyers are now nearly eight million dollars over the salary cap, it is likely that buyouts are looming. Should the rumors of the Ilya Bryzgalov buyout be truthful, the question is: who will take over the vacant Goaltender position? In the past few days, a name that keeps resurfacing is that of current Los Angeles Kings backup Goaltender Jonathan Bernier.  Stuck behind the all-star brick wall known as Jonathan Quick, Bernier has had limited time to showcase his skills between the pipes. As he is set to become a restricted free agent, Bernier would no doubt like to …

Coaching adjustments: Pay attention to the point

Early on in the season, the Philadelphia Flyers found themselves in some trouble. Their slow start has been well documented at this point, but it is all too easy to forget how close they seemed to come to turning it around before the wheels came off for good. By the 11th of February, they had already completed over 25 percent of their regular season schedule, finding themselves below .500; but they had finally started to find their way into the win column. With seven of a possible eight points over a four-game stretch, the team traveled to Toronto with every …
