Hockey Hilarity: Ovechkin Unplugged

Friday funnies brought to you straight from hockey’s own players, media personnel, and broadcast botches. We’ll be mucking it up every week right here, examining puck ups, puns, tweets, and more! So maybe you’re watching the NHL Playoffs, maybe you’re not. Sometimes players score pretty goals. This was the case here as Derek Stepan of the New York Rangers potted a beauty against the Washington Capitals: Unfortunately on this play, Washington captain Alex Ovechkin was real lazy in “playing defense” and while he’s been pretty stellar over the second half of the season and decent in this series, this was pretty …

Steve Mason earns the victory as the Flyers defeat the Rangers 4-2

Steve Mason was outstanding stopping 38 of 40 shots as the Philadelphia Flyers defeated the New York Rangers 4-2 on Tuesday night. “Certainly he seems to be feeling comfortable here”, Coach Peter Laviolette said of his new goaltender. ”He’s in control of the net. He’s got a good glove. He seems to be seeing the puck really well. Rebounds are going out to the side or not at all.” Kimmo Timonen had what ended up being the game winning power play goal along with an assist. Flight Plan: Seven Games Left

The Philadelphia Flyers have seven games remaining in their 2013 season. Yesterday they lost to the Buffalo Sabres by a score of 1-0. They are not technically mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, but they will be this week with relative ease. Even if they win out, the Flyers would need all of the teams above them to lose just about every game. Four of the seven games on Philadelphia’s docket are this week against the Montreal Canadiens, the New York Rangers, the New Jersey Devils, and the Carolina Hurricanes. Atlantic Watch: Flyers add Huskins and Rosehill, Pens’ streak ends, Islanders sit in eighth, Rangers add Clowe

The Philadelphia Flyers fought hard this week to stay in the playoff hunt, but a laundry list of injuries is only going to make things more difficult for the Orange and Black to reach the postseason. With a depleted defense and the loss of a key energy forward, Philly will need to grab a handful of points against three teams in the playoff picture and one looking to crack the Eastern Conference’s top eight. Atlantic Watch: Flyers keep slipping, Penguins keep winning, Rangers and Devils hanging on to playoff spots, Islanders within reach of postseason

The Philadelphia Flyers were the only team in the Atlantic Division not to win a game this week, as they went 0-1-1 against the Pens and Rangers. Things don’t get any easier for the Flyers over the next week, as they take on a division leader and two teams fighting to make the postseason. After a six-day break, the Flyers dropped a 2-1 overtime decision to the Pittsburgh Penguins at the CONSOL Energy Center on Sunday. Tyler Kennedy, who missed the Pens’ game against the New York Islanders due to being sick, ripped one over Ilya Bryzgalov’s right shoulder with 2:27 left …

Flight Plan: Home Cooking

After having five days off, the Philadelphia Flyers will now play five games over the next eight days as they attempt to claw their way back into the playoff picture. As of today, Philadelphia is just three points out of the bottom of the Eastern Conference and five points out of the eighth and final playoff spot. The good news is they’re a healthy bunch, (other than Danny Briere who was injured in practice yesterday, is questionable for the game today and is listed as day-to-day), which is more than can be said for a lot of teams in the …
