Ryan Callahan and Rick Nash each registered two goals tonight, as the New York Rangers handed the Philadelphia Flyers a 4-2 loss at Madison Square Garden. Henrik Lundqvist recorded the win with 23 stops, while Wayne Simmonds and Jakub Voracek were the only two visitors to beat New York’s goaltender this evening. The loss snaps Philly’s two-game winning streak. The Flyers came out and dominated the first segment of the third period, but couldn’t beat Lundqvist to gain the lead. Future Flyers Report: Stolarz and Alderson Sign, Wahl Added

The Philadelphia Flyers signed a pair of Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds to entry-level contracts this week. One of those was expected, as goaltending prospect Anthony Stolarz inked a deal. The other signing wasn’t, as forward Brandon Alderson also joined the organization. Stolarz continues to impress in the OHL with the London Knights. With three wins this week, Stolarz extended his winning streak to seven straight starts and improved his record to 11-2-1 with the Knights. Leighton’s return spoiled as Devils down Phantoms

Michael Leighton made his Adirondack season debut Sunday night at the Glens Falls Civic Center with a 25-save performance, only to see the rest of his Phantoms teammates fall short in a loss to the Albany Devils by a score of 3-2. Jeff Frazee put on a stellar performance for the Devils (24-19-11) with 36 saves, and Phil DeSimone scored twice including the deciding tally before the nine-minute mark of the third. Blake Kessel is regarded as one of the better defenseman on the Trenton Titans. At 6’2″, 203 pounds, Kessel does a great job in his own end of the rink and can pitch in offensively as well. In his final two years at the University of New Hampshire and his time with the Adirondack Phantoms last season, Kessel posted a total of 16 goals and 67 assists in 133 games. During the 2011-2012 campaign, the tandem of Harry Zolnierczyk and Erik Gustafsson saw their fair share of action with the Philadelphia Flyers. Scott Laughton participated in 32 games for the Oshawa Generals of the OHL before he joined the Philadelphia Flyers’ roster for the start of the 2013 season. Future Flyers Report: Stolarz Unbeaten with Knights, Cousins Leads OHL in Scoring

Goaltender Anthony Stolarz had a record of 2-5-0 and a save percentage under .900 with the University of Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks before he joined the London Knights of the OHL in early January. Since his move, Stolarz has appeared in six games for the Knights and has yet to lose. The 45th overall pick in the 2012 NHL Draft is 4-0-0 in the OHL with a goals against average of 1.84 and a save percentage of .937. The first period of tonight’s game was sloppy, fast paced, and loaded with ups and downs. Here are some noteworthy items: The defensemen are playing terrible defensively but they are also jumping into the play, generating offense and scoring goals. Obviously, there needs to be more balance here but, if the defense can spark the forwards, less pressure will be put on the defense and it will all work out in the long run.
