Captain Claude leads, Bryzgalov gets ShO as Flyers rout Islanders, 7-0

Claude Giroux backed up his words after the loss on Saturday, as he led the Philadelphia Flyers to an emphatic 7-0 win against the New York Islanders at Nassau Coliseum on Monday afternoon. The captain, who ripped his teammates for their effort in the wake of listless back-to-back road losses at New Jersey and Montreal, posted two goals and an assist, while he also set the tone early with hustle and physicality. The Flyers sit in last place in the Atlantic Division, and 12th in the Eastern Conference; but they are only two points out of the eight spot. Ilya Kovalchuk recorded three assists, while Patrik Elias had a goal and two assists in the win. Martin Brodeur stopped 25 of Philly’s 28 shots and added on an assist, as Ilya Bryzgalov denied 14 of …

Hockey Hilarity: Cechmanek-esque Salute

Friday funnies brought to you straight from hockey’s own players, media personnel, and broadcast botches. We’ll be mucking it up every week right here, examining puck ups, puns, tweets, and more! Pretty sure most people have seen this video by now, but I figured I’d do a post about it as well. Austin Krause, a goalie (well, probably former goalie now) for Farmington High School in Minnesota, purposely puts a puck into his own team’s net, and then proceeds to show the team his IQ in the form of a certain single-fingered-salute, before leaving the ice. Sure, the video is pretty …
