In their only game this week, the Flyers took part in yet another shootout. Unfortunately for Philly, it was unable to pull out a win. The Orange and Black did, however, keep up with the Rangers, who also lost in a shootout this week. The Flyers look forward to a difficult week ahead, as three of their four opponents are currently in the playoff picture. For a third time this season, the Flyers lost to the Winnipeg Jets. This time, however, the game was very defensive, as the Jets picked up a 2-1 shootout win in Philadelphia on Tuesday night. Chris …
Five Questions: What should fans expect to happen at the trade deadline?
Flyers Faithful asked Bill Meltzer from HockeyBuzz, NHL.com, and PhiladelphiaFlyers.com, Joshua Janet from GCobb, Michael DeNicola from Orange and Black Pack, and our very own Bob H five questions about the second half of the season. We are very grateful that they took the time to share their opinions and predictions with us. Each day of this week, we will run the answers to one of those questions. Today’s question is: What should fans expect to happen at the trade deadline? What do you think should happen at the deadline? Bill Meltzer: I think the Flyers will look to add a …
RICE & MICE: JVR’s Concussion
So, last season I wrote about the travesty that was Mark Recchi questioning the severity of the concussion that Max Paciorretty suffered during the violent collision between his head and the turnbuckle in Montreal. At the time I talked about how irresponsible it was for Recchi to pass his uninformed judgment about how severe another player’s head injury was to the media, when all head injuries should be considered severe. Thankfully, Pacioretty has returned to hockey and has been healthy this season. Unfortunately, I have seen and heard more than once, fans making the implication that James van Riemsdyk is …

The Flyers won two of their three games this week, as they finished the week by handling the free-falling Minnesota Wild. After Sergei Bobrovsky earned the start on Thursday night on Long Island, Ilya Bryzgalov got the call for the last two games of the week making 46 saves on 50 shots against. Philly looks forward to a difficult week, as two of their four games are against division leaders in the Eastern Conference. The Orange and Black started off with a 3-2 in New York against the Islanders. Sean Couturier scored with 1:30 left in regulation to extend the …
JvR out with concussion
Everybody wondering “What’s wrong with James van Riemsdyk?” now has an answer, so they can stop gnashing their teeth and rending their garments over it. From the desk of Flyers GM Paul Holmgren late this morning: “James was hit in the head in each of our last two games. He reported yesterday, not feeling like himself. He will be out indefinitely with a concussion.” I agree with some sentiments over the internets today, that there’s a new way to mask injury issues: rampant trade rumors. Van Riemsdyk was limited to 15 shifts totaling 10:32 on ice in Thursday’s 3-2 win …
