In what seemed to be the exact opposite of Thursday, the Flyers completed the sweep of their home and home with the Devils today with a 2-1 win. Instead of starting slow and finishing strong, the Flyers came out strong and slowed down towards the end of the game. With 3 times as many chances as the Devils in the 1st period, the Flyers were able to gain a 2-0 lead that they would hold onto for a close one goal win. Combined with Thursday’s 4-2 victory, the Flyers were able to outscore New Jersey in the home and home 6-3. The win extends …
Flight Plan week of 12.26.2010
‘Tis the season for road trips as the Flyers head out west on their annual post-Christmas visit to the other conference and try to regain the top spot in the NHL after losing it to Pittsburgh as they remained idle during the Penguins’ last two games. The Penguins hold just a one point lead over the Flyers and the Fly guys have two games in hand as they’ve played 35 to Pittsburgh’s 37. The Flyers obviously would love to forget what happened a week ago at home, but alas, they would do well not to as they got smoked in …

The Flyers’ Christmas wish list
The holiday season is upon us and, while stockpiling items on our Amazon wish lists, we decided to come up with our own list of things we would want for the Philadelphia Flyers in 2011. Here are our top 10 wishes, minus the most obvious one (a Stanley Cup championship): 10. Cap relief The Flyers have zero need for Matt Walker. They never did. When he becomes healthy, if the Flyers can find a taker who is desperate for a physical defender, jackpot. If not, just waive him. Meanwhile, it probably won’t be too long before the goaltending logjam gets …
Benchmarking some ’11 predictions
We were too new and too disorganized to assemble a preview of the 2011 NHL season worth reading. However, we made sporadic predictions on our site and participated in Freeze the Puck’s Atlantic Division Preview. So, we’ll aggregate some of those predictions here and benchmark our results. Prediction #1: Breakout stars Atlantic Division: I’m going to pick Claude Giroux. He’s been a slow starter over the last few seasons but he also hasn’t had wingers that could keep up with him on his line. Claude Giroux is only two goals shy of tying his career high of 16 goals. He …

Flyers @ Devils preview
The Flyers play the New Jersey Devils today at 1:00 p.m. in New Jersey. Here are a few thoughts on the matchup: After a slow start, James van Riemsdyk has been the hottest Flyer of late, yet he only saw 7 seconds of powerplay time in the 3-2 shootout loss to the Calgary Flames yesterday. The struggling powerplay could use a boost and he could be the catalyst. Claude Giroux, who led all Flyer forcwards in ice time yesterday (22:49), was off his game against Calgary, despite scoring a gorgeous shootout goal. It couldn’t hurt to give him more of …

The morning after: Senators @ Flyers 11.15.10
“The morning after” is a review of the previous night’s Flyers’ game which, in theory, provides a more objective perspective on the game. So the Flyers seem to be playing pretty dominant hockey lately, eh? The schedule looks tough this week, and it will be a good test for the team. Not multiple choice, but one of those essay ones that you have to write in those blue books. This game was touted a clash of two of the hottest teams in the league right now. And the Flyers dominated. The game started slowly, with a bit of feeling-out in the beginning …
