Metropolitan Division Preview: Carolina Hurricanes

The Carolina Hurricanes and the Philadelphia Flyers have a somewhat shared history. Two all-time great Flyers, Rod Brind’Amour and Mark Recchi, won a Stanley Cup with the ‘Canes in 2006. Former Flyer Justin Williams was also on that roster. Their coach? Peter Laviolette. But that’s pretty much it. There’s not a noted record of animosity between these teams. They’ve played sometimes and…yup. That’s about it. So, I guess they’re rivals now or something. Boo ‘Canes?   City Facts They like racing, I believe. It’s close enough to the Wright Brothers that I will go ahead and declare the Hurricanes responsible …

Atlantic Watch: Pens at the top of the Eastern Conference, Islanders clinch playoff spot, Rangers hanging on to eighth

After learning that they wouldn’t be in the playoffs for the second time in the last 18 seasons, the Flyers pulled off two straight wins. The Orange and Black look to end the campaign on a strong note with one more home game and one more away game. Simmonds’ hat trick powers Flyers past Hurricanes in Carolina

The Philadelphia Flyers were able to post a win in their first game since knowing they were eliminated from playoff contention, as they beat the Carolina Hurricanes 5-3 on the road tonight. Steve Mason earned the decision in the high-scoring affair, as he denied 26 of the Hurricanes’ 29 shots on net. Justin Peters lost with only 33 saves on 38 shots against. “It felt pretty good obviously,” Simmonds said after his big night. “I feel …
