Frequent Flyer Miles: Shelley retires and becomes announcer, Printz to Allsvenskan, Rowe hangs up skates

A small number of former Philadelphia Flyers, draft picks, and players who were once linked to the organization moved this week, as three former Flyers altered their careers and a former Trenton Titan retired. The biggest news of the week relating to former Flyers is the retirement of Jody Shelley. The enforcer announced his decision to walk away from his playing career early this week, as it was also announced that he would be a broadcast associate and “team ambassador” for the Columbus Blue Jackets, according to ESPN. Shelley will be an analyst for the Flyers’ new divisional opponent, as well as an occasional TV commentator …

Shelley retires, one more ex-Flyer in Columbus

It seems everything about Jody Shelley has been done quietly ever since he arrived in Philadelphia thanks to a mystifying three-year, four-plus-million free-agent deal signed in July of 2010. On Friday, several outlets reported that the square-jawed Manitoba native has decided to call it a career. And in an ironic twist, he’ll become the latest ex-Philadelphia Flyer to wind up with the Columbus Blue Jackets.
