Claude Giroux’s power play goal early in the second period would prove to be the game winner, as the Flyers held on to beat the New York Islanders 5-2. Matt Read and Wayne Simmonds scored 59 seconds apart in the second period to give the Flyers an early 2-0 lead. Sean Couturier and Steve Downie assisted Read’s goal. On Tuesday night, Oliver Lauridsen’s first NHL goal came courtesy of a huge mistake made by Boston’s Zdeno Chara. This time, Lauridsen’s goal was all his own as he notched the game winner in a 2-1 victory over the New York Islanders. Ilya Bryzgalov got the win for the Flyers making 21 saves. Kevin Poulin took the loss for the Islanders making 28 saves of his own.
