Five Questions 2013 Preseason: Will This New Flyers Team Find Success?

Flyers Faithful is pleased to have Dave Isaac from the Courier-Post, Matt Brigidi from SB Nation, David Strehle from The Fourth Period, Anthony Mingioni from Center Ice Philly, and our very own Steve Jacot participate in the current iteration of Five Questions. This is the final installment of a five-part series focusing on the 2013-2014 preseason. (Please keep in mind that these questions were answered last week, so some of our questions may already have been resolved by the team.) At this time, does it seem like the Flyers have the pieces in place to have a successful season? Dave Isaac: I suppose that depends on the …

Kimmo Timonen takes Breaking Bad too seriously

(Warning: There are some spoilerish things about Breaking Bad below) KIMMO TIMONEN shows up to Flyers practice at the SKATE ZONE. He is sporting a new look with a goatee and pork pie hat. While skating around, he sees ERIK GUSTAFSSON block a shot. Kimmo skates over to Gus and uses his stick to tip him over.   KIMMO I am the one who blocks!   PAUL HOLMGREN calls Kimmo in to meet with him regarding the incident. Maybe Paul Holmgren can split himself in two, watch both games with his full attention, and combine back together with the full knowledge he requires. …

It adds another body to a defense corps that already had some intriguing decisions to make. From my article last week: The Flyers are currently just over $2 million over the league’s upper limit, so they will have to shed some cap space. The likely candidates are defenseman Braydon Coburn or Andrej Meszaros (or Grossmann to a lesser extent). The Flyers have nine blue-liners signed to one-way contract; and young players such as Oliver Lauridsen are knocking on the door of …

Flyers sit at 49 contracts with decisions to make; intriguing training camp battles

With the recent signing of restricted free agent Brandon Manning, the Philadelphia Flyers now sit at 49 contracts on the 50 contract reserve limit. Two of those contracts could slide, meaning they would not count towards the 50 contract limit, if Laughton or Stolarz are sent back to Juniors (a likelihood for the latter). The Flyers are currently just over $2 million over the league’s upper limit, so they will have to shed some cap space.
